The Minnesota Timberwolves haven’t made any huge trades this offseason, instead opting to keep most of their 2025 roster intact. Priorities included re-signing Naz Reid and Julius Randle to new contracts, allowing them to return and help Anthony Edwards and the Wolves contend in the Western Conference.<\/p>\n

The NBA Draft brought in new talented big men, with first-round pick French center Joan Beringer and second-round pick Australian center Rocco Zikarsky. Beringer is likely to see more minutes in the rotation in the next season or two.<\/p>\n

Acquiring Zikarsky was part of a trade with the Chicago Bulls on NBA Draft night. In addition, the team drafted Rasheer Fleming early in the second round and then sent him to the Phoenix Suns.<\/p>\n

Those are far from the big moves that some Timberwolves fans may have wanted. A few weeks ago, the team was among those mentioned in NBA trade rumors as a potential landing spot for superstar Kevin Durant.<\/p>\n

However, speculation that he’d go to Minnesota died down when he specified it wasn’t somewhere he wanted to play.<\/p>\n

All that said, the Timberwolves could still be involved in the blockbuster KD deal, which sent him from the Suns to the Houston Rockets. The caveat remains that they would not be the team getting Durant, but simply participating.<\/p>\n

The Athletic’s John Hollinger<\/a>\u00a0and others reported that the trade may involve a record-setting seven teams. Along with the Rockets and Suns, sources reportedly told the outlet that the ongoing negotiations also involve the\u00a0Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Timberwolves.<\/p>\n

According to The Athletic’s report, there was no imminent trade, and details were still being finalized for the deal. Negotiations reportedly began Monday.<\/p>\n

If this were to occur, it would break the previous record trade, which involved six teams in the deal last summer that sent Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors to the Dallas Mavericks. The Timberwolves were one of the teams involved in that trade.<\/p>\n

Before that, a 2021 trade sent Russell Westbrook to the Lakers, involving five teams.<\/p>\n

The initial report from ESPN’s Shams Charania<\/a> regarding the Durant trade was that he would join the Rockets, and the Suns would receive Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and various draft picks. Those players still appear to be part of the deal. The more recent negotiations appear also to involve Clint Capela and Daeqwon Plowden.<\/p>\n

The Athletic mentioned that most of the names involved in these negotiations are from trades that had already been agreed upon and reported, but teams hadn’t finalized the deals. The Durant trade can’t be completed until July 6, when the\u00a0new league year begins.<\/p>\n

So Timberwolves fans shouldn’t get too excited about a blockbuster trade to add another star to help Ant-Man and his teammates, yet.<\/p>\n
