{"id":151846,"date":"2025-07-06T19:50:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-06T19:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/151846\/"},"modified":"2025-07-06T19:50:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-06T19:50:12","slug":"jahmai-mashack-still-with-grizzlies-after-seven-team-trade-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/151846\/","title":{"rendered":"Jahmai Mashack still with Grizzlies after seven-team trade news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/jahmai-mashack-52990\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jahmai Mashack<\/a> has not been traded from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Golden State Warriors, despite ESPN\u2019s report Sunday of the seven-team trade that had Mashack with the Warriors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShamsCharania\/status\/1941912041364635660\" rel=\"nofollow\">ESPN\u2019s Sham Charania<\/a> reported that Mashack was part of the seven-team trade that also included the Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The seven-team deal had to become official before the trade between the Grizzlies and Warriors, made during the second round of the NBA Draft on June 26, could then become official.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Memphis got Mashack with the No. 59 overall pick as well as a protected second-round pick while Golden State traded up to No. 56 to get Florida guard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/will-richard-121004\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Will Richard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019ve always wanted to be and strived to be a winner\u2019<\/p>\n<p>On draft night Mashack was selected by Houston but traded to the Grizzlies, via the Warriors. Mashack had an introductory press conference in Memphis on June 26.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited because I\u2019ve always been about winning,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/tennessee-volunteers\/news\/jahmai-mashack-memphis-grizzlies-nba-draft-press-conference-tennessee-vols-basketball\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mashack said at the time<\/a>, \u201cand I\u2019ve always wanted to be and strived to be a winner and I think that fits what they\u2019re trying to do, as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the seven-team trade that became official Sunday, Phoenix acquired the most players, getting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/jalen-green-54293\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jalen Green<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/dillon-brooks-36978\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dillon Brooks<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/khaman-maluach-175548\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Khaman Maluach<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/rasheer-fleming-174192\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rasheer Fleming<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/koby-brea-173935\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Koby Brea<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/daeqwon-plowden-27858\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Daeqwon Plowden<\/a> and a second-round pick.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Houston got <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/kevin-durant-74043\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kevin Durant<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/clint-capela-24091\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clint Capela<\/a> and Brooklyn got two second-round picks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Golden State got Mashack, who was later traded to Memphis for Richard at No. 56, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/alex-toohey-174403\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Toohey<\/a>. Atlanta got a second-round swap, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/david-roddy-32049\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Roddy<\/a> and cash, the Lakers got <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/adou-thiero-152499\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adou Theiro<\/a> and Minnesota got <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/rocco-zikarsky-175552\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rocco Zikarsky<\/a>, two second-round picks and cash.<\/p>\n<p>The Grizzlies beat the Oklahoma City Thunder Saturday, in the first day of the NBA Summer League in Utah, but Mashack did not play.<\/p>\n<p>Jahmai Mashack at Tennessee: 4.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists in 137 games<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/utsports.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/jahmai-mashack\/20401\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The 6-foot-4, 202-pound Fontana, Calif., native<\/a>, was considered one of the best perimeter defenders in college basketball last season while averaging 6.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 38 games as a senior with the Vols.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mashack averaged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cbb\/players\/jahmai-mashack-1.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">4.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 137 games at Tennessee<\/a> over the last four seasons. He left the Vols tied with Zakai Zeigler for the most wins (109) for a four-year player in men\u2019s basketball program history.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He also appeared in the most NCAA Tournament wins (9) and tournament games (13) in program history and set the program record for total steals (18) and single-game steals (5) in NCAA Tournament games.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMashack was the best defensive player in college basketball this year,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6414203\/2025\/06\/10\/nba-draft-guide-2025-top-100-prospects-cooper-flagg\/?source=emp_shared_article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Athletic\u2019s Sam Vecenie wrote of Mashack in his NBA Draft profile<\/a>, \u201cand might be one of the best perimeter defenders on the planet right now.
