The Minnesota Timberwolves are a team that has been relatively quiet regarding offseason trades. Their most significant moves included re-signing Naz Reid and Julius Randle, as well as drafting French center Joan Beringer and Australian center Rocco Zikarsky.<\/p>\n

Barring a few deals on NBA Draft Night and a minor role in a historic seven-team trade to send Kevin Durant to Houston, Minnesota hasn’t acquired any new notable free agents.<\/p>\n

That could change in the coming days and weeks. Many Timberwolves fans have expressed concerns about finding a better option for the team’s point guard, as 37-year-old Mike Conley seems to be on the tail end of his NBA career.<\/p>\n

The team already has 20-year-old guard Rob Dillingham, who will show his skills during the upcoming Summer League games in Las Vegas. However, he’s still young and in his second season, so having a guard with a bit more experience could suit the Timberwolves as they contend in the West.<\/p>\n

A report from The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer<\/a>\u00a0indicated that there’s interest in free agent guard Malcolm Brogdon. The former NBA Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year has bounced around between teams during his nine seasons in the league, with stints in Milwaukee, Indiana, Boston, and Portland.<\/p>\n

His most recent was with the Washington Wizards, where he averaged\u00a012.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game last season.\u00a0Last season, the Timberwolves’ Conley averaged 8.2 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game.<\/p>\n

All three of these averages are down from Conley’s first season with Minnesota, suggesting that Brogdon could provide a decent option when healthy. A Bleacher Report<\/a> article recently ranked Brogdon at No. 15 for the NBA’s 25 best remaining free agents.<\/p>\n

That said, the Timberwolves are among multiple teams exploring a potential sign-and-trade for Brogdon. Per Fischer, other teams include the\u00a0Clippers, Suns, Lakers, Warriors, Pelicans, Kings, and Bucks.<\/p>\n

Brogdon played his first three seasons with the Bucks, which included a promising Rookie of the Year debut in 2016-17. He flourished in three seasons with the Pacers, including career-high averages for points, rebounds, and assists.<\/p>\n

He went on to win Sixth Man of the Year in the 2022-23 NBA season as a valuable member of the Boston Celtics’ bench.<\/p>\n

Landing the 32-year-old could be huge for Minnesota’s depth, as it would give them a somewhat younger, capable point guard. It would allow for the interchangeable use of the more experienced Brogdon and the younger, potentially emerging star guard Dillingham based on the team’s needs.<\/p>\n

The biggest issue with Brogdon would be his ability to stay healthy, as he has participated in only about half of his team’s games in three of his past four seasons due to injury. If he could remain an active part of the Wolves’ rotation, it could be a trade that especially pays off come playoff time.<\/p>\n
