surprising three-team trade with the Los Angeles Clippers and Utah Jazz<\/a> earlier this week, spoke publicly for the first time about the move \u2014 and revealed his deep-rooted admiration for the franchise.<\/p>\n\u201cIt was a childhood dream to come here,\u201d Powell told Local 10 News Wednesday, adding that he grew up rooting for the Heat and always loved the idea of playing for the team.<\/p>\n
Still, the trade caught him off guard.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then when I got the call and said I was traded, obviously it\u2019s a shock, because you\u2019re not expecting it \u2014 you just had a career year, and you know, you like to believe that you\u2019re gonna think you\u2019re gonna have some extension talks and things when you\u2019re back,\u201d Powell said. \u201cBut hearing that it was Miami, I was really excited. I\u2019ve had a couple of guys that I\u2019ve played with play for the team, the organization \u2014 they said amazing things about the city, about the fans, about the organization.\u201d<\/p>\n
Powell, 32, has only improved with age. <\/p>\n
Last season, he averaged 21.8 points per game on 48 percent shooting \u2014 the most efficient and productive year of his career.<\/p>\n
