{"id":169179,"date":"2025-07-14T02:45:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-14T02:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/169179\/"},"modified":"2025-07-14T02:45:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T02:45:09","slug":"northwest-notes-beringer-henderson-hansen-bates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/169179\/","title":{"rendered":"Northwest Notes: Beringer, Henderson, Hansen, Bates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The workout that sealed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/berinjo01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-13_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Joan Beringer<\/a>\u2018s selection by the Timberwolves with the 17th overall pick last month took place in Chicago less than a week before the draft, writes <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6486683\/2025\/07\/11\/nba-timberwolves-joan-beringer-summer-league-workout\/?source=emp_shared_article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Wolves\u2019 front office had been keeping an eye on the young big man, who only started playing basketball at 14 when he grew too big for soccer cleats throughout his season with Cedevita Olimpija. But that late workout allowed Beringer to show his skill set outside of the game tape, and that proved to be the deciding factor for Minnesota\u2019s top decision-makers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember just catching an eye with [Wolves\u2019 president Tim Connelly] and both of our eyebrows were kind of cocked, like what\u2019s going on here, man,\u201d said director of scouting Joe Connelly.<\/p>\n<p>Beringer\u2019s agent, Jelani Floyd, considered his client\u2019s floor to be No. 16 with Orlando, but when the Magic traded their pick to the Grizzlies, the Wolves contacted him to schedule a last-minute workout \u2014 Floyd made the front office come to him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy whole thing is like, hey, come in, bring your staff, and we\u2019ll be able to see how serious they were,\u201d Floyd said.<\/p>\n<p>The Wolves found the combination of Beringer\u2019s size, mobility, and balance \u2014 which culminated in him performing a free-throw line dunk on command \u2014 impressive enough that they decided the French center had to be their guy.<\/p>\n<p>We have more from around the Northwest division:<\/p>\n<p>Trail Blazers\u2018 head coach Chauncey Billups is extremely encouraged by the offseason work from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hendesc01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-13_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Scoot Henderson<\/a>, who Billups said is having an incredible summer. \u201cHe had a tough year last year, only because he didn\u2019t get to play basketball during the summer. He was banged up, he was licking his wounds from the season.\u201d Billups said in a Summer League interview with the ESPN broadcast team (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=f_3civtjovI&amp;ab_channel=PortlandTrailBlazers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">video link<\/a>). \u201cThis year he\u2019s been playing ball all summer, he\u2019s been working on his game, as you said. Scoot is gonna take an incredible leap this year.\u201d Billups also expressed excitement about how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holidjr01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-13_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jrue Holiday<\/a> could help Henderson\u2019s development: \u201cWhat better guy in the league could you have to raise Scoot and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sharpsh01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-13_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Shaedon [Sharpe]<\/a>?\u201c<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/y\/yangha01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-13_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Yang Hansen<\/a> was maybe the biggest surprise of the 2025 draft when the Trail Blazers picked him 16th overall, but his Summer League debut went a long way to quieting any doubters, writes Sean Highkin of Rose Garden Report (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rosegardenreport.com\/yang-hansen-aces-trail-blazers-summer-league-debut\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">subscriber link<\/a>). Hansen put up 10 points, four rebounds, five assists, and three blocks, and while his passing captured a lot of attention, Highkin says that it was his communication with his teammates that was the most impressive part of his debut performance. At least one person within the Blazers organization wasn\u2019t surprised. \u201cYou don\u2019t do something\u00a0that crazy unless you\u2019re sure about it,\u201d said the anonymous staffer.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/batesta01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-13_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tamar Bates<\/a> is finding a way to impact the Nuggets\u2018 Summer League team outside of the box score, writes <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2025\/07\/12\/tamar-bates-nuggets-two-way-contract-kansas-city-chiefs-broncos\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bennett Durando of the Denver Post<\/a>.
