SAN FRANCISCO (AP) \u2014 Warriors star Jimmy Butler is out for Game 3 of Golden State\u2019s first-round playoff series against the Houston Rockets on Saturday night after injuring his pelvis and suffering a deep gluteal muscle contusion in a hard fall during Game 2.<\/p>\n

Butler had been set to go through his pregame routine, which he does out of sight on the team\u2019s practice court and not the playing floor before games at Chase Center. He had an MRI exam Thursday in the Bay Area a day after he was hurt in Houston. <\/p>\n

Jonathan Kuminga, who didn\u2019t play for three straight games before rejoining the rotation in Game 2 when Butler got hurt, was in the starting lineup for his fourth career playoff start. <\/p>\n

The best-of-seven series is tied at one game apiece with the next two games on the Warriors\u2019 home floor. Game 4 is Monday night.<\/p>\n

Butler went down hard when fouled by Amen Thompson late in the first quarter and then missed the rest of the Warriors\u2019 109-94 Game 2 loss<\/a> on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Butler tried to secure a rebound when Thompson undercut him<\/a> and sent the Warriors star\u2019s feet high into the air so he came down straight onto his tailbone. Both players thudded to the floor with the collision and Butler grimaced in pain grabbing at his backside. He stayed in briefly to shoot two free throws before going to the locker room.<\/p>\n

Kerr was prepared for any scenario, even having Butler in a limited role.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s Plan C. We\u2019ve got A and B lined up,\u201d Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. \u201cYou saw Plan C the other night. When somebody goes out in the middle of the game, you\u2019re scrambling but at least we\u2019ve had more time to prepare for that this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the Game 1 win against the Rockets, Butler had 25 points on 10-for-19 shooting, seven rebounds, six assists and five steals in 42 minutes of action. The Warriors are 25-9 since Butler made his debut at Chicago on Feb. 8, including 23-8 in the regular season, a play-in tournament win over Memphis and the two games facing Houston.<\/p>\n

Rockets coach Ime Udoka planned for Butler to play.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe prepped the whole week off for Butler to be there and obviously last game as well, he was out and you can put more of your focus on (Stephen) Curry and certain guys,\u201d Udoka said. \u201cBut anticipation that he\u2019s going to play. We prep like he is and if he isn\u2019t, we\u2019ll do what we did last game and just key in a little bit more, but obviously the dynamic he gives them another scorer, facilitator, 1A, 1B combo with Curry is very important to them, obviously. We\u2019re going into it as if he\u2019s playing.\u201d<\/p>\n
