{"id":193173,"date":"2025-07-25T05:12:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T05:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/193173\/"},"modified":"2025-07-25T05:12:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T05:12:12","slug":"kansas-basketball-coach-bill-self-hospitalized-in-major-health-scare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/193173\/","title":{"rendered":"Kansas basketball coach Bill Self hospitalized in major health scare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"author-section byline-plain\">By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/profile-156\/oliver-salt.html\" class=\"author\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OLIVER SALT<\/a> <\/p>\n<p class=\"byline-section\"> Published:  22:32 EDT, 24 July 2025   |  Updated:  22:44 EDT, 24 July 2025   <\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Legendary <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/kansas\/index.html\" id=\"mol-6359e3f0-68ff-11f0-bee2-c52ec9a1a5c2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kansas<\/a> basketball coach Bill Self was taken to hospital on Thursday after experiencing &#8216;concerning&#8217; symptoms related to his heart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Self, the most successful basketball coach in Kansas Jayhawks history, had two stents inserted into his heart at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in order to treat blocked arteries, the school&#8217;s athletic department said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;The procedure went very well, and he is expected to make a full recovery,&#8217; the statement added. &#8216;He is in good spirits and expects to be released from the hospital soon.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The 62-year-old directed the final practice of the summer session Thursday morning as he prepares for his 23rd season as head coach of the Jayhawks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">He was forced to miss the 2023 Big 12 and NCAA tournaments because of a heart condition, which forced him to undergo a standard catheterization and have two stents inserted to help treat blocked arteries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Self has led Kansas to national titles in 2008 and 2022 and is the school&#8217;s career victory leader with a 609-156 record.
