ESPN anchor Elle Duncan caught some flak for a particularly crude comment during the network\u2019s broadcast<\/a> of the\u00a0WNBA All-Star Game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was during halftime when Duncan made her comment regarding the offensive output by both teams.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope it gets a little bit more competitive,\u201d Duncan said after watching Napheesa Collier\u2019s team put up 82 points to\u00a0Caitlin Clark\u2019s\u00a0squad\u2019s 60 in the first half. \u201cBecause, like a girls\u2019 trip to Cancun right now, there\u2019s no D.\u201d<\/p>\n

ESPN analyst Chiney Ogwumike quickly said, \u201cElle, you\u2019re in timeout. You\u2019re done.\u201d Then, the broadcast went to commercial.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Duncan doesn\u2019t have any regrets about her comments despite the vitriol on social media. During an appearance on \u201cThe\u00a0Dan Le Batard Show<\/a>\u00a0with Stugotz,\u201d she defended her comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy thing with the Cancun joke is, I feel like whenever I say something, it\u2019s like sometimes a reintroduction for some people who clearly don\u2019t know me or my work over the last 10 years,\u201d Duncan said, according to Awful Announcing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018Bro, I said on-air one time that if you celebrate too early, it\u2019s called\u00a0premature I\u2019m-Jacked-Elation.\u2019 Like, I can\u2019t actually imagine this is worse than that. Like I feel like I constantly have to remind people I have been saying things like this for the 10 years I have been at ESPN.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I thought it was silly. I thought it was funny. Some people disagree. Some people definitely agree. But it is what it is. Like, yes, girls say crude jokes, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duncan also addressed<\/a> a specific portion of comments.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe funny part to me, y\u2019all, has been the people who are like, \u2018What am I supposed to say to my children?’\u201d Duncan added. \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018Well if you have to talk to your children about the fact that \u2018D\u2019 is a slang word for a penis, then I hope that I was able to help you have that conversation with your child who\u2019s old enough to watch basketball.\u2019 Because my 4-year-old knows what a penis is.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so silly to me. The idea that like this is groundbreaking or somehow completely inappropriate in the landscape that we live in right now is just wild to me. I was a little blown, to be real.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Duncan\u2019s comment went viral on social media, many were quick to comment with frustration.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdd this to a long list of why no one takes @WNBA or @espn seriously,\u201d one X user said under a video of Duncan, posted by Awful Announcing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Shane Gillis said that, they\u2019d try to cancel him,\u201d another wrote, referencing the comedian\u2019s ESPYs monologue that turned heads this past week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When the second half eventually started, there was more offense than defense yet again.
