Tyrese Maxey had his season cut short due to a tendon injury in his finger. His absence toward the end of the season was just another roadblock the Philadelphia 76ers<\/a> had to navigate, as he joined All-Stars Paul George and Joel Embiid on the inactive players list. Despite the early ending to his season, Maxey had impressed in the 52 regular-season games he’d suited up for.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old guard ended the campaign with averages of 26.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 6.1 dimes per game, shooting 43.7% from the field. When contextualizing those numbers with the limited star talent around him, Maxey had a very strong showing for Nick Nurse’s team. As a reward for his impressive performances, Maxey now finds himself ranked as a top-10 point guard in the NBA in HoopsHype’s annual point-guard rankings.<\/p>\n

“A volume scorer with good playmaking ability, Tyrese Maxey missed out on All-Star honors last season, but he performed at that level,” HoopsHype’s Frank Urbina wrote.<\/a> “Maxey even had a career season on the defensive end, averaging nearly two steals per contest, playing the role of chaotic pest well on the less glamorous end of the floor…Regardless, Maxey remains one of the top scoring-minded point guards in the NBA today thanks to his elite quickness and valuable pull-up shooting ability, and the Philadelphia 76ers<\/a> rightfully value him as such.”<\/p>\n

Maxey will have a new backcourt partner this season, as Nurse and his coaching staff look to integrate VJ Edgecombe into the rotation, thus giving the Sixers an exciting young core in the backcourt.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, as we head into the 2025-26 season, the hope will be that Maxey’s injury issue is behind him and that he’ll be ready to showcase some new improvements to his ever-expanding game. Factor in a potentially healthy season for George and maybe Embiid, and there’s a lot to be excited about if you’re a Sixers fan.<\/p>\n
