The Brooklyn Nets<\/a> and guard Cam Thomas<\/a> have not exactly seen eye-to-eye since Thomas became a restricted free-agent his summer due to the amount of money he wants. Brooklyn appears to be willing to re-sign Thomas, but it seems to be only if he is willing to sign to their number. There is also more information to the negotiations than has been reported initally.<\/p>\n

“The Nets’ Cam Thomas might be the most likely of the four notable restricted free agents out there \u2014 along with Giddey, Kuminga and Philadelphia’s Quentin Grimes \u2014 to take the bet-on-yourself option and accept his qualifying offer,” NBA insider Fischer wrote<\/a> to begin his reporting on Thomas’ situation. Fischer is one of a few insiders to suggest<\/a> that Thomas might take his $5.99 million qualifying offer (QO) so that he can be an unrestricted free-agent next offseason.<\/p>\n

“Brooklyn has not made an aggressive effort to retain Thomas on any long-term deal, sources say,” Fischer continued. “Sources also say Thomas is showing an increasing interest in playing out next season on a $6 million qualifier for the right to enjoy true free agency next summer.”<\/p>\n

Fischer originally said<\/a> during a Bleacher Report livestream last month that Thomas was the most likely restricted free-agent to take the qualifying offer given that Brooklyn seems to be holding firm in their negotiations with the former LSU Tiger. Brian Lewis of the New York Post recently reported<\/a> that Thomas is looking for his next contract to give him around $30 million per season, a figure the Nets haven’t agreed to as of this writing.<\/p>\n

It’s also notable that Brooklyn hasn’t been more aggressive in trying to sign Thomas to a long-term deal, something else that Fischer pointed out during the same livestream for Bleacher Report. Fischer noted at the time that the contract Brooklyn was offering Thomas was a two-year deal worth $14.1 million annually or better known as the amount of the Non-taxpayer Mid-level exception for the 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n

Thomas, 23<\/a>, is coming off the best season of his career as he averaged 24.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 43.8% from the field and 34.9% from three-point land.
