The Celtics<\/a> will see more of an old friend next season after Javonte Green<\/a> found a new home. Shams Charania of ESPN.com<\/a> reports that the former Boston wing is signing a one-year deal with the Detroit Pistons. Terms of the deal were not revealed, but it\u2019s expected to be a veteran\u2019s minimum deal with a partial guarantee. Green will take one of the final spots on the Pistons 15-man roster.<\/p>\n

Green spent last season splitting time between the Pelicans and Cavaliers. He reached a buyout agreement with the Pelicans after the trade deadline and then signed with the Cavs in February. <\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI like just being part of a winning culture,\u201d Green said last February. \u201cJust watching the guys now as winning as they are. A player like me, is just being there, watching the guys just gel together and be a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old wing served as largely deep bench depth for the Cavaliers though, appearing in just 18 games and averaging only 9.2 minutes. He posted 5.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in 18.5 minutes per game across the entire 2024-25 season while shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from 3-point range.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-4 Green began his career in Boston in 2019 four years after going undrafted out of Radford. His athleticism and defense helped him earn a rotation role with the Celtics before he was traded away to the Bulls at the trade deadline in 2021 in a cost-cutting move. Green spent three seasons in Chicago before he split time with the Pelicans and Cavaliers last year.<\/p>\n

With the Pistons, Green will join an emerging Eastern Conference squad that was a tough first-round series foe for the Knicks. He should have a chance to compete for minutes off the bench against a host of young backcourt talent, including Marcus Sassier and Chaz Lanier. The Pistons also brought in some other veteran talent on the wing this offseason besides Green in Duncan Robinson and Caris LeVert to replace Malik Beasley and Dennis Schroder.<\/p>\n
