Washington Wizards<\/a> rookie Tre Johnson was among the players who volunteered at a back-to-school event, benefiting the local youth in the community.<\/p>\n

Johnson was joined by fellow rookies Will Riley and Jamir Watkins at William Ramsay Elementary School for the event, which provided school supplies, a book and lunch. They were also pictured interacting with the children and providing positive interactions.<\/p>\n

The offseason period is an excellent chance for incoming rookies to get to know their respective markets and communities.\u00a0The trio also recently threw out the ceremonial first pitch<\/a> for the Washington Nationals<\/a> as they hosted the Athletics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Johnson debuted with the Wizards in the NBA Summer League last month, averaging 19.5 points, three rebounds, 1.5 assists and one steal on 45.5% shooting from 3-point range in two games. The sixth pick finished with 21 points on July 13.<\/p>\n

Riley, the 21st pick, logged two appearances in the desert, posting averages of 10.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists. Watkins averaged 11 points, five rebounds, 4.2 steals and 1.6 assists on 33.3% shooting from the field in five games.<\/p>\n

The three players got a firsthand experience with the local youth and likely picked up a few new fans by stopping by for the afternoon.
