Caitlin Clark pushed the limit of technical fouls as a rookie. She’s determined to limit it this season but picked one up in the preseason finale.<\/p>\n

ATLANTA \u2014 In a tale as old as time, Caitlin Clark<\/a> picked up her first technical foul of the preseason Saturday.<\/p>\n

She picked up the foul in the second quarter of the Indiana Fever<\/a>‘s preseason finale. She thought there should be a foul on a bounce pass that was intercepted and led to a layup by Atlanta’s Bri Jones, and she threw the ball against the stanchion of the hoop after Jones’ shot. The referee immediately turned and gave her a technical.<\/p>\n

Clark is known to be a competitive and fiery player, frequently talking to refs or hitting the stanchion out of frustration when calls don’t go her way. In some cases, including Saturday, that leads to a technical foul.<\/p>\n

Lucky for her, preseason technical fouls don’t count toward the regular season seven-technical limit.<\/p>\n

Clark received six technical fouls in her rookie season in 2024, coming one away from being suspended without pay for a game. Heading into 2025, she told Fever<\/a> coach Stephanie White that she would limit herself to two technical fouls this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

How many technical fouls until suspension in WNBA?<\/p>\n

In the WNBA regular season, a player is suspended for one game after they pick up seven technical fouls in one season. After that initial suspension, they’re suspended again for every other technical they get (9th, 11th, 13th, etc). Players also have mounting fines for each technical \u2014 $200 each for techs 1-3, $400 each for techs 4-6 and $800 each for seven and more.<\/p>\n
