This past weekend, the Texas women’s basketball<\/a> team wrapped up its appearance at the 2025 Globl Jam tournament<\/a> with a silver showing against the host nation.<\/p>\n Behind 24 points from Washington guard Avery Howell, Canada posted a 72-65 win over Texas in the\u00a0Globl Jam’s championship game at the Mattamy Athletic Center in Toronto. Like VCU did in 2022 and Louisville in 2023, Texas was representing USA at the event<\/a>.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Texas got a 13-point, eight-rebound effort in the Globl Jam finale from junior forward Breya Cunningham<\/a>, a 6-foot-4 transfer from Arizona. But Shay\u00a0Holle (39 starts) and Taylor Jones (37 starts) exhausted their college eligibility, Aaliyah Moore (19 starts) will be unavailable this season as she recovers from lingering knee problems and Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda (15 starts) transferred to Vanderbilt a few months ago<\/a>.<\/p>\n So Texas will need a few new starters this season. And Vic Schaefer was given the chance to experiment with his lineup in Toronto.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n To nobody’s surprise, Harmon and Madison Booker<\/a> started each\u00a0of UT’s four games. Harmon will enter her fifth season of college basketball\u00a0needing just 46 assists to break<\/a> Kamie Ethridge\u2019s longstanding career record at Texas. A junior, Booker is already a two-time All-American.<\/p>\n MORE: More: Texas’ Bryanna Preston set for sophomore season, Rori Harmon’s return<\/a><\/p>\n In an event-opening rout of Puerto Rico, Texas also started sophomores Jordan Lee<\/a> and Justice Carlton<\/a> alongside senior center\u00a0Kyla Oldacre<\/a> (Oldacre suffered a lower body injury while scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in nine minutes on the court and did not play for the rest of the Globl Jam tournament). In UT’s first meeting with\u00a0Canada, Lee started again but was joined this time by Cunningham and fellow newcomer Teya Sidberry<\/a>. Against Brazil, Texas lined up sophomore Bryanna Preston, Missouri transfer Ashton Judd and Cunningham with Harmon and Booker.<\/p>\n In the Globl Jam’s championship contest, Texas went with a starting lineup of Harmon, Booker, Preston, Cunningham and Sidberry.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n “I didn’t really want to experiment with that many rotations, but I had to,” Schaefer said. “We’ve got a lot of growing, a lot of (maturing) that we’ve got to do to get better. (This trip) exposes you a little bit at times.\u00a0It’s so much better than going on a\u00a0foreign tour when you win by 60 every night and everybody thinks you’re playing great and you’re really not doing anything at all.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
