Former Wisconsin guard John Tonje, the 53rd overall pick in the NBA draft, has signed a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz<\/a>, according to the official NBA transaction report<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tonje was a consensus second-team All-American last season as a senior, averaging 19.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists on 38.8% shooting from 3-point range. He led the country in free throws (231) and the Big Ten in scoring (724 points).<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old finished with 724 total points last year, the second-most by a Badger in a single season. He was the first player since Kemba Walker in 2011 to record at least 30 points in three consecutive games against top 10 opponents.<\/p>\n

Tonje debuted with the Jazz in the NBA Summer League, averaging 10 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 33.3% shooting from the field. He missed the Salt Lake City Summer League and was limited to two appearances in Las Vegas due to a right ankle sprain.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-5 standout will split his time next season between the NBA and the Salt Lake City Stars in the G League. He is eligible to be active for up to 50 games in the NBA and will earn $636,435, which is equal to 50% of the minimum salary applicable to a player with zero years of service.<\/p>\n

Tonje is a part of a crowded draft class for the Jazz, joining Ace Bailey (No. 5 pick) and Walter Clayton Jr. (No. 18 pick) this year.
