The Brooklyn Nets<\/a> will be opening training camp later on this month as they look to prepare for a 2025-26 NBA season that is projected to be tough for the franchise. Brooklyn will inevitably have a roster crunch entering camp, but one of the players that will be reportedly competing for a roster spot is heading to the borough to play for a roster spot.<\/p>\n

Player development coach Vaughn Compton recently posted a picture of Fanbo Zeng (h\/t to NetsDaily<\/a>) with the caption being that it was “Great having Fanbo Zeng in Phoenix before he heads to the Brooklyn Nets<\/a>. Have not seen many 6\u201911\u201d guys that can shoot the way he can.” To Compton’s point, Zeng’s physical profile is an interesting one for a player looking to carve out a spot in the NBA.<\/p>\n

In August, HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported<\/a> that the Nets had agreed to a deal with Zeng, who is considered to be one of the best prospects in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). Zeng is coming off his best season in the CBA as he averaged\u00a014.7<\/a>\u00a0points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 53.0% from the field and 40.9% from three-point land.<\/p>\n

Zeng, 22, first made his name known within NBA Draft circles when he attended the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Top 100 Camp in 2019, a showcase intended to show some of the best high-school players in the country. In October of 2021, Jonathan Givony\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0for ESPN that Zeng would sign with the NBA’s G League Ignite program in anticipation of declaring for the 2022 NBA Draft.<\/p>\n

Zeng will be facing an uphill climb towards making a roster spot as the Nets have 21 players on the roster after waiving<\/a> forward Tosan Evbuomwan towards the end of August. Brooklyn will be up to 22 players on the team assuming that guard Cam Thomas re-signs with the team at some point, but Zeng could be competing for one of the two Two-Way spots that are available.<\/p>\n
