Nine Longhorns have heard their names called in the first 10 selections since 1982, when the Kansas City Kings grabbed\u00a0LaSalle Thompson\u00a0fifth overall. Since 2000, eight players donning the burnt orange have been high- or mid-lottery prospects, many of whom came during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/coach\/rick-barnes-238780\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rick Barnes<\/a>\u2019 star-studded tenure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/texas-longhorns\/join\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">[Sign up for Inside Texas TODAY and get the BEST Longhorns scoop!]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are the obvious players like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/kevin-durant-74043\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kevin Durant<\/a>, who went second to Seattle in 2007, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/lamarcus-aldridge-77666\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LaMarcus Aldridge<\/a>, who was also a No. 2 overall pick by Chicago in 2006, though he was traded to Portland on a draft-night deal involving LSU\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/tyrus-thomas-118932\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tyrus Thomas<\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/tristan-thompson-116471\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tristan Thompson<\/a>\u00a0was the fourth-overall selection in 2011, and Texas\u2019 first-ever Naismith Player of the Year\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/tj-ford-149853\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TJ Ford<\/a>\u00a0went eighth to Milwaukee in 2003.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Other talented prospects like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/mohamed-bamba-90100\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mo Bamba<\/a>\u00a0(sixth overall, 2018, Orlando),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/jaxson-hayes-58360\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jaxson Hayes<\/a>\u00a0(eighth overall, 2019, Atlanta\/traded to New Orleans),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/dj-augustin-27501\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DJ Augustin<\/a>\u00a0(ninth, 2008, Charlotte), and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/chris-mihm-148732\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Mihm<\/a>\u00a0(seventh, 2000, Chicago\/traded to Cleveland) also found themselves as potential franchise cornerstones when selected.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/myles-turner-90778\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Myles Turner<\/a>\u00a0barely missed the cut, going 11th to Indiana in 2015.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This year, superstar guard\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/tre-johnson-145522\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tre Johnson<\/a>\u00a0will add his name to this distinguished list of Longhorns. He is almost a surefire early-to-mid lottery pick, but the rumors at the moment are that he may be amongst the list of candidates to go as high as three, which would be Texas\u2019 first third-overall pick and their third-highest selection ever.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A lot of this will depend on the way tonight\u2019s NBA Lottery shakes out. Some teams in the mix for Johnson based on need are San Antonio, Toronto, and Brooklyn, all of whom should be in the first eight or so picks according to lottery odds. <\/p>\n<p>He showed off in pre-draft workouts in Santa Barbara, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OPML5Aik8mI\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to DraftExpress\u2019 Jonathan Givony<\/a>: \u201c(It\u2019s) hard to find a more impressive prospect in a workout setting than Tre Johnson\u20266-foot-6 with ridiculous shot-making prowess and machine-like consistency, Johnson looked awfully impressive.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Most mock drafts have Johnson going near or in the top five, including CBS Sports (third), The Athletic (third), Sports Illustrated (fifth), Bleacher Report (fifth), and Tankathon (fifth).
