The 37-year-old, a 15-time All-Star and a much sought-after summer trade acquisition, is about to enter the last season of his deal. At Houston’s media day session on Monday, September 29, Durant stated to reporters that he anticipates staying longer. Durant said that he hopes to sign a contract extension with the Rockets and explained how he was able to arrange a trade to get him because of his strong relationship and mutual respect with coach Ime Udoka.<\/p>\n

Durant is eligible to sign a new contract because he is in the last year of one that will pay him $55 million. Some people thought that as part of Houston’<\/a>s agreement to acquire Durant from the Suns in July, he would negotiate an extension with the Rockets. Although there have been talks, Durant has not signed a contract and is beginning training camp.Durant said:\u201cI do see myself signing a contract extension.. I can\u2019t tell you exactly when that will happen, but I do see it happening. Just seeing the quick progression of this franchise, from where it was right after that James Harden-Chris Paul era, seeing when Ime (Udoka) got here and how he turned it around so fast.He continued:\u201cAnd I have some connections here within the organization, people I work with around the league already, so it felt organic and natural coming into the gym and being a Houston Rocket for the first time.\u201dIf Durant signs for the maximum, he could sign a two-year agreement worth over $120 million. Regarding expectations, Durant stated:\u201cI never talked about championships on any team I\u2019ve been on\u2026 You just put your head down and work every single day. But the formula, I\u2019ve felt the last few years in the league, is to have size, to have guys that can penetrate, guys that can create extra possessions for you, guys that can switch and guard multiple positions, length and athleticism, discipline, effort every single night, from a scheme perspective and camaraderie, continuity \u2014 all of that stuff matters\u2026\u201dHe added:\u201cI feel like we\u2019ve got bits and pieces of all of those attributes on our team now. He always respected that and gave me my space to be me. So that was one of the first things I thought about.”After enduring a lost season with the Suns the previous season, Durant is currently with a team that hopes to contend for a championship.
