The 2019 Final Four\u2019s Most Outstanding Player, Virginia Cavalier legend Kyle Guy came out of retirement earlier this week to sign an Exhibit 10 contract with the Indiana Pacers.<\/p>\n
Guy, who hasn\u2019t played in the NBA since the 2021-22 season, will be stepping away from his role as an assistant coach at the University of Nevada \u2014 where he was hired back in April \u2014 to pursue a role once again in The Association.<\/p>\n
Under an Exhibit 10 contract, Guy will have the chance to prove himself during training camp and in the preseason before the Pacers decide whether to have him play with their G-League affiliate, the Noblesville Boom, or to sign him to a two-way deal for the season.<\/p>\n
Guy will join a Pacers organization that\u2019s crawling with former Virginia legends, including Head Coach Rick Carlisle, as well as another 2019 National Champion, Jay Huff, who was traded to Indiana from the Memphis Grizzlies back in July.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s been a long road back to the NBA for Guy, who was selected with the 55th pick in the 2019 draft and appeared in 53 games over three seasons for the Sacramento Kings and the Miami Heat between 2019 and 2022. The Indianapolis native took his talents overseas in 2022, where he played for Joventut Badalona and Lenovo Tenerife in Spain, as well as Panathinaikos in Greece, over the course of two seasons.<\/p>\n
After announcing that he\u2019d be retiring from professional basketball in August of 2024, Guy returned to Charlottesville to begin his coaching career, where he served as a special assistant under Ron Sanchez this past season for UVA basketball.<\/p>\n
Despite his brief time away from professional basketball, Guy clearly hasn\u2019t lost his shooter\u2019s touch. At a \u2018The Next Chapter\u2019 tournament in Indianapolis in late September, Guy flashed the familiar three-point stroke and deep offensive bag that UVA fans remember all too well.<\/p>\n
Guy\u2019s return to the NBA caps off what\u2019s been a week to remember. The former \u2019Hoo also announced on Wednesday that he has officially earned his degree from UVA.
