The Post dressed a statue of beloved Celtics coach Red Auerbach in a Knicks jersey to poke fun at the teams\u2019 Eastern Conference rivalry Wednesday \u2014 and Beantown fans were steaming hotter than a large cuppa Dunkin.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Knicks are taking on the Celtics in Game 5 tonight in Boston. David McGlynn<\/p>\n

\u201cBro, that\u2019s f\u2014ked up, that should be a crime,\u201d one 20-something said as he walked by the bronze likeness at Faneuil Hall.<\/p>\n

The statue was adorned with the jersey of Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson.<\/p>\n

For the prank, The Post slipped a jersey of Knicks star point guard Jalen Brunson onto the statue of the coach, who won eight NBA championships in a row from 1959 to 1966.<\/p>\n

The Big Apple\u2019s favorite paper then adorned him with a New York Post cap and stuck Tuesday\u2019s issue \u2014 highlighting the Knicks\u2019 121-113 victory on the\u00a0backpage\u00a0wood \u2014 under his arm.<\/p>\n

Security came by to shut it down after just a few minutes. Steve Vago\/NY Post<\/p>\n

\u201cNo way \u2014 they put him in a Knicks jersey. That\u2019s disrespect,\u201d another passerby moaned.<\/p>\n

But the stunt lasted only 10 minutes before security guards demanded that the jersey be removed, declaring the site is \u201cprivate property.\u201d<\/p>\n

Isaac Schweiger, 21 \u2014 a Knicks fan who grew up on the Upper East Side and now lives in Boston \u2014 laughed at the unlikely mascot.<\/p>\n

Schweiger said he\u00a0doesn\u2019t often encounter open New York fans in Boston.<\/p>\n

\u201c[My] friends never shut up. They don\u2019t lose often, but when we do play them like we did this year, [it\u2019s]\u00a0 a bitch for the Celtics fans,\u201d said Schweiger, a Northeastern business student.<\/p>\n

Security guards declared that the statue was \u2018private property.\u2019 David McGlynn<\/p>\n

Schweiger said he feels \u201cconfident\u201d about winning the\u00a0East Conference semifinals Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe stars are aligning and hopefully we can just end it tonight, and face the Pacers and cruise on to the finals. That\u2019s the goal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Knicks are on the brink of heading to the East Conference Finals if they beat the Celtics in Game 5 Wednesday. Knicks lead the series 3-1.<\/p>\n
