Former Duke and NBA player Kyle Singler<\/a> has been charged with assault<\/a> in Oklahoma.<\/p>\n

Haskell County deputies say Singler and his girlfriend were staying at an Airbnb in Whitefield in eastern Oklahoma when he allegedly tried to rape her, grabbed her and pushed her down last Thursday.<\/p>\n

Mitch Dobbs, with the Haskell County Sheriff\u2019s Office, told News 9 that the woman had marks on her face<\/a> consistent with Singler\u2019s handprints. Singler, 37, appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and refused to cooperate with investigators, he said.<\/p>\n

A toddler in the home at the time of the incident was deemed safe. The alleged victim told deputies she shares the young child with Singler.<\/p>\n

Singler was booked at the county jail on a misdemeanor assault charge and later released on $6,000 bond. He was formally charged Tuesday with one misdemeanor count of assault and battery in the presence of a child.<\/p>\n

The incident came less than a year after Singler made a series of bizarre Instagram posts<\/a> where he claimed he feared for his life and that his \u201ccommunity\u201d was conspiring against him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been mistreated and abused, neglected, made into a mental example,\u201d Singler said in a short video. \u201cI fear for my life every day. And people in my community make me look out as if I\u2019m going to be someone that\u2019s going to be a problem and make things difficult for people when I\u2019m only trying to be helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n

A high school All-American in Oregon, Singler starred at Duke for four seasons, winning the NCAA championship in 2010. He was taken by the Detroit Pistons in the second round of the 2011 NBA draft where he played parts of three seasons before being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.<\/p>\n

After the 2018 season, he played in Spain and the Canary Islands but retired from professional basketball for personal reasons<\/a> in the fall of 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Former Duke and NBA player Kyle Singler has been charged with assault in Oklahoma.
