Emotions ran high at the United Center as all-time franchise three-point leader Zach LaVine and fan favorite DeMar DeRozan returned. CHSN insider K.C. Johnson noted it was also a reunion for former Bulls players BJ Armstrong, Doug McDermott, and Chip Schaefer. The Kings aimed for their second win of the season, while the Bulls worked to keep their undefeated streak alive. Both teams were missing key players—Coby White and Zach Collins for the Bulls, Keegan Murray and Nique Clifford for the Kings. Expectations for Wednesday night’s game differed greatly, but both teams wanted the same outcome.

At the moment of tip-off, both teams showed strong offensive play but lacked defense. LaVine energized Chicago early, scoring multiple three-pointers and attacking the rim, while Buzelis put up a series of dunks and outside shots, making a clear impact for the Kings. Chicago looked poised to extend their lead, with Buzelis finishing the quarter in double digits. The Bulls held a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, momentum shifted as LaVine used a powerful dunk and outside shooting to help the Kings build a 12-point lead. However, the Bulls collectively responded, notably with Buzelis scoring twice inside and Giddey moving well without the ball to set up teammates for open looks. Despite a late turnover, the Kings led by only two points at halftime.

Story continues below.

More Sports News

 .wp-block-group__inner-container:has(> .embla),
.wp-block-group:where(.alignfull) > .wp-block-group__inner-container:has(> .embla) {
width: calc(100vw – (var(–side-spacing) * 2)) !important;
}
.embla {
position: relative;
overflow: hidden;
}
.embla__container {
display: flex;
flex-wrap: nowrap;
gap: 0 !important;
width: 75%;
}
.embla__slide {
margin-inline-end: var(–column-gap);
}
.embla__arrow,
.embla__arrow:active,
.embla__arrow:target,
.embla__arrow:hover,
.embla__arrow:focus-visible {
display: none;
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
transform: translateY(-50%);
width: 40px;
height: 40px;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
line-height: 0;
background: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.75);
color: var(–color-primary);
border-radius: 100vw;

 svg {
width: 24px;
}
}
.embla__prev {
left: 0;
}
.embla__next {
right: 0;
}

Coming back from the break, the Bulls did not slow down. As a team, the Bulls had a few good defensive possessions followed by timely baskets from Vucevic and Buzelis. The Kings’ head coach had no choice but to call a timeout early in the quarter. Similar to previous games this season, the Bulls’ collective gained speed in the third while the opposing team dwindled.

Aside from the sentiments and tribute videos, what made this game special was the performances by Buzelis and Giddey. Typically, Ayo Dosunmu, Tre Jones, and Nikola Vucevic would be prominent contributors to the Bulls’ victories down the stretch, but this time, all three took a back seat. Dosunmu struggled to guard LaVine matter of fact. It is very promising to see the strength in numbers mantra work to its fullest ability.

What’s On Tap Next

The Chicago Bulls face off against historic rivals in the New York Knicks at home in the United Center.
