Their star shines bright, and he\u2019s arguably been the best player in clutch time three weeks into the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">There shouldn\u2019t be a need for clutch baskets and hero ball against the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn is in the midst of a rebuild that hasn\u2019t gotten off the ground yet. They are 1-7, and there\u2019s little to be optimistic about from a Nets fan POV besides the 2026 draft. But as we all know, being the worst team in the league doesn\u2019t guarantee a top-3 pick anymore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Detroit has handled its soft matchups this year, and Brooklyn needs that same treatment. With the matchup being an Emirates NBA Cup game, there\u2019s even more incentive for Detroit to come out guns blazing and crank out a double-digit victory dub.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">When: 7:30 p.m. EST<br \/>Where: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York<br \/>Watch: Fan Duel Sports Network Detroit<br \/>Odds: Pistons -10.5<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Brooklyn is in a weird spot, but you still have to respect anyone who steps on the hardwood. Though the Nets don\u2019t have anyone who will strike real fear in the top-tier Pistons defenders, they\u2019re still NBA players with pride.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">That said, the Nets\u2019 rebuild is off to a sloth start. None of their 5 first round picks from the 2025 draft are playing well. Egor Demin is their only rookie who\u2019s played 100 minutes so far, and 31 of his 36 field goal attempts have been 3-pointers (he\u2019s 6-foot-9). That\u2019s discouraging for a team starting its rebuild. This franchise is more worried about scouting Darryn Peterson, AJ Dybantsa, and Cam Boozer than winning basketball games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Detroit couldn\u2019t be further from that side of the winner\u2019s spectrum. Isaiah Stewart is first in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/nba\/ask\/blocks-total-leader-this-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">total blocks<\/a> if only mortal humans are included.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Besides those counting stats, the Pistons\u2019 defense moves as a closed fist in the halfcourt. They\u2019re a together unit that flies around making up for each other. Detroit\u2019s giving up a measly 88.9 points per 100 in the halfcourt, according to Cleaning the Glass (2nd behind Miami).<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The offense hasn\u2019t operated with the same we\u2019re all in this together mentality during crunch time. At least scoring-wise. When it\u2019s winning time, give Cade Cunningham the ball and get out of the way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">You could do that, but Detroit still tries to get Cade a head start attacking rotating defenses when others bring the ball up and Cade is in scorer mode, Iverson cutting to the other side of the floor ready to attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Even if Cade can\u2019t attack a moving defense, it still hasn\u2019t mattered. The shotmaking down the stretch of games has been bonkers. He\u2019s shooting over lengthy defenders, Barkleying to the post, and getting to the rim at will. His <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statmuse.com\/nba\/ask\/nba-leaders-in-total-fourth-quarter-scoring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">86 fourth-quarter points<\/a> are No. 1 in the Association.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">This type of play from the Pistons star will lead to an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NBA_Cup#All-NBA_Cup_teams_and_MVPs\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">All-NBA Cup<\/a> team and possibly the MVP of the whole thing. This <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/news\/nba-cup-101\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Emirates NBA Cup<\/a> is still relatively new, but players seem to play as hard, and the Bucks celebrated like it mattered last year. More money and competitive bragging rights will do that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Cam Thomas and Michael Porter Jr. are the Brooklyn \u201cstars\u201d who haven\u2019t helped this team be super competitive this year. They\u2019re both scoring as much as they can, but making plays for others isn\u2019t their game. Thomas is out in this one anyway with a hamstring injury.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Assists aren\u2019t the end-all be-all for playmaking, but Nets center Nic Claxton leads Brooklyn in APG at 3.8. There is nothing inherently wrong with a big man leading the squad in assists, but Claxton isn\u2019t a Joki\u0107\/Sabonis\/\u015eeng\u00fcn type of center. He\u2019s a roll man lob threat, so that Brooklyn trend is concerning\u2014especially after they drafted four guards in the first round.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">With Brooklyn\u2019s glaring deficiencies (30th defense, 23rd offense) and Detroit\u2019s uptick in most things across the board, this game should be in control quickly if Detroit sticks to its guns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Keep smothering offenses, keep Jalen Duren on his Shaq attack stuff, and keep the ball in Deuce\u2019s hands if the game is in the line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Cade Cunningham, Duncan Robinson, Ausar Thompson, Isaiah Stewart, Jalen Duren<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Tyrese Martin, Terence Mann, Michael Porter Jr., Noah Clowney, Nic Claxton<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Think back to those early 2000s Pistons-Nets playoff matchups.
