{"id":401632,"date":"2025-11-10T16:17:12","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T16:17:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/401632\/"},"modified":"2025-11-10T16:17:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T16:17:12","slug":"al-horford-does-a-little-bit-of-everything-for-warriors-without-steph-curry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/401632\/","title":{"rendered":"Al Horford does a little bit of everything for Warriors without Steph Curry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN FRANCISCO \u2013 In multiple plays that likely puzzled Warriors fans Sunday night, Jimmy Butler sliced his way to the rim and \u2026 threw the ball back out to the perimeter in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2025\/11\/09\/warriors-instant-analysis-jimmy-butler-steph-curry-injury-pacers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Golden State\u2019s 114-83 victory over Indiana<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The usual target of his high-speed dimes?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>None other than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2025\/10\/27\/golden-state-warriors-al-horford-availability-back-to-backs-steve-kerr\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Al Horford<\/a>, who entered Sunday mired in a bit of a shooting slump. He had not made a 3-pointer since Oct. 30, and went 0-for-7 in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2025\/11\/05\/steph-less-warriors-run-out-of-steam-in-loss-to-sacramento-kings\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">last game at Sacramento<\/a> on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Not that it mattered to Butler, who recognized and appreciated all of the less flashy things Horford has still brought to the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs great of screens as he sets for me, and protecting everybody at the rim and making all the right plays, whenever he\u2019s open, he gets the ball for sure,\u201d Butler said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Horford rewarded Butler\u2019s faith repeatedly. Each of the 39-year-old center\u2019s four 3-point makes came off Butler assists.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJimmy, right away, made it a clear point to look for me,\u201d Horford said. \u201cHe had a few times where he had layups. He was still looking to kick it out and encouraging me to shoot the ball. The passes, you know, they were on the money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His buckets were not the only part of Horford\u2019s game that was \u201con the money.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He also made an outsized defensive impact in his 18 minutes, blocking three shots and stymying Indiana\u2019s shorthanded offense with his activity in the passing lanes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Horford was, simply and emphatically, answering the call made by his more vocal frontcourt partner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter last game, Draymond (Green) challenged us to be better and come out with more intensity, better energy,\u201d Horford said. \u201cI feel like we did that today and it\u2019s something that we have to do every day, every game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Golden State Warriors' Jimmy Butler III (10) goes up for a basket past Indiana Pacers' Tony Bradley (13) in the first quarter of their NBA game at Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif., on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025. Though no longer capable of playing 30-plus minutes like he did as an All-Star in Atlanta and Boston a decade ago, he is capable of impacting a game in short bursts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was plus-9 in his limited minutes, also grabbing four rebounds to go along with his dozen points. After sitting out Friday\u2019s game in Denver with a left foot injury, Horford appeared as healthy as ever.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel good today,\u201d Horford said. \u201cI feel much better, and it was just good to be out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As has been the case all season, Horford will not play both ends of the upcoming back-to-back in Oklahoma City and San Antonio, but he did not reveal which game he would participate in.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Should he suit up in Oklahoma City, Horford will give the frontcourt a boost against the defending champions as the Warriors (6-5) begin a six-game road trip Tuesday night (5 p.m., NBC Sports Bay Area).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOKC, they\u2019re playing at home, they play really well, defending champs,\u201d Horford said. \u201cSo we can\u2019t even think about the rest of it, just have to focus on that first one.
