On a recent episode of Shannon Sharpe\u2019s Club Shay Shay, Barstool Sports\u2019 founder Dave Portnoy didn\u2019t hold back when discussing who the best Celtics of all time are.<\/p>\n

The straightforward Boston native\u2019s top five list excluded Kevin Garnett, which sparked some debate around the city.<\/p>\n

Portnoy thought about the franchise\u2019s fantastic and unmatched history.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s such a tough one,\u201d Portnoy said. \u201cObviously Bill Russell, Larry Bird, Cousy, Havlicek\u2026 I think you\u2019ve got to put Tatum.. It\u2019s tough you\u2019ve got so many greats and I could be forgetting (some).\u201d<\/p>\n

His personal top five depended on longevity, championships, and individual accomplishments.<\/p>\n

Russell has the most championships as a player in NBA history, Bird won three MVPs, Cousy is regarded as the best playmaker of his era, and Tatum is Boston\u2019s current superstar.<\/p>\n

\u201cBird, Russell, Havlicek, Cousy, Pierce, McHale, then KG,\u201d a user added on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTatum above any of those guys is laughable,\u201d another one wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Portnoy leaned towards Havlicek because of his eight championships, while considering Paul Pierce as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love Pierce, he has one (championship). I love him, but it\u2019s only one.\u201d<\/p>\n

When talking about Garnett\u2019s career, Portnoy noted that his short stint with the team hurts his case immensely.<\/p>\n

Despite his defensive and cultural impact at the time, he doesn\u2019t believe it stacks up with other Celtic legends. How can you blame him?<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a big championship guy, it\u2019s not on KG, I love him, but he\u2019s maybe my favorite Celtic.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the conversation went on, \u201cEl Presidente\u201d also mentioned that current stars Tatum and Jaylen Brown could be entering that territory.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe two that have a chance are Brown and Tatum, if they keep winning,\u201d Portnoy said.<\/p>\n

With more hardware, Boston\u2019s duo of the last eight seasons would jump into some elite company if they can win again together.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s incredibly difficult to name just five players from a storied franchise like the Celtics.
