{"id":41175,"date":"2025-05-18T14:06:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-18T14:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/41175\/"},"modified":"2025-05-18T14:06:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-18T14:06:09","slug":"no-malicious-intent-on-angel-reese-foul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/41175\/","title":{"rendered":"No &#8216;malicious&#8217; intent on Angel Reese foul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If one thing is clear, it\u2019s that Caitlin Clark does not like the drama around her and fellow WNBA star Angel Reese.<\/p>\n<p>When Clark was asked about <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/17\/sports\/tempers-flare-after-caitlin-clarks-flagrant-foul-on-angel-reese\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the flagrant foul she committed<\/a> against Reese during the Fever\u2019s 93-58 blowout win over the Sky in Saturday\u2019s season-opener, the 23-year-old insisted that it was a smart play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s not make it something that it\u2019s not,\u201d Clark said after posting the third triple-double of her career. \u201cIt was just a good play on the basketball. I\u2019m not sure what the ref saw to upgrade it, and that\u2019s up to their discretion. It\u2019s a take foul to put them at the free-throw line. I\u2019ve watched a lot of basketball in my life, that\u2019s exactly what it was. I wasn\u2019t trying to do anything malicious. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Reese said it was simply a \u201cbasketball play\u201d when asked about it after the game.<\/p>\n<p>Clark committed the foul during the third quarter, shoving Reese to the floor under the basket to prevent her from taking a shot.<\/p>\n<p>After review, Clark was hit with a flagrant 1, with both her and Reese being issued technicals as the two had to be separated by players from each team.<\/p>\n<p>Angel Reese looks on during the Sky\u2019s blowout loss to the Fever in Indianapolis. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Clark finished the game with a 20-points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists as the Fever won in a blowout. Reese had a strong night, too, scoring 12 points to go along with 17 rebounds. <\/p>\n<p>Clark\u2019s performance even grabbed the attention of LeBron James.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTRIPLE DUB CC!! Great way to kick off the season!\u201d James <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KingJames\/status\/1923851699057459690\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">posted on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Clark opened up to ESPN about <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/16\/sports\/caitlin-clark-has-new-mindset-heading-into-second-wnba-season\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">how she feels more adjusted<\/a> to the WNBA in her second season compared to last year\u2019s opener when she was a rookie coming off a long season at the University of Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonestly, I don\u2019t even really remember last year\u2019s [opener],\u201d\u00a0Clark told ESPN\u00a0this week. \u201cMaybe that\u2019s a good thing. I think [this year] it\u2019s just going out there and having fun and being confident. I\u2019ve been in this league for a year now. I know I belong. I know I can perform, and I can make my teammates better every single night. Give yourself grace. There\u2019s going to be really good moments. There\u2019s going to be moments where you struggle. So just trying to stay as neutral as I can and stay positive.
