Right as Victor Wembanyama<\/a> seemed ready to announce himself as an NBA superstar and MVP candidate<\/a>, another injury-related roadblock is delaying his ascent.<\/p>\n

The 7-foot-5 San Antonio Spurs center<\/a> had strung together his best performances since scoring 40 points in the season opener, culminating with back-to-back showcases at home against the Golden State Warriors. Wembanyama first had a 31-point, 15-rebound, 10-assist triple-double facing the Warriors on Nov. 12 (two days after a 38-point, 12-rebound, 5-assist, 5-block showing in a win over Chicago<\/a>). The 21-year-old from France then dunked on Draymond Green<\/a> and dueled with Stephen Curry<\/a> in the fourth quarter of a memorable Nov. 14 loss to Golden State.<\/p>\n

Those highlights will have to suffice for the time being. Though Wembanyama finished that second matchup with the Warriors and the Spurs (10-4)<\/a> are off to their best start in a decade, he did not come out unscathed. Wembanyama hasn’t played in San Antonio’s two games since then. The Spurs are scheduled to face the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday, Nov. 20<\/a>.<\/p>\n

No. Wembanyama is expected to miss his third-straight game when the San Antonio Spurs<\/a> host the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n

The Spurs announced<\/a> Wembanyama suffered a left calf strain against the Golden State Warriors on Nov. 14 after the results of an MRI. Multiple reports set the timeline for Wembanyama’s potential return at 2-3 weeks. He has already missed San Antonio’s Nov. 16 win over the Sacramento Kings<\/a> and its Nov. 18 win over the Memphis Grizzlies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wembanyama appeared in just 46 games last season after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.<\/p>\n

Wembanyama is off to a strong start in his third NBA season, leading the league in blocks again (3.6 per game) and ranking second in rebounds (12.9).
