If the Dallas Mavericks decide to trade Anthony Davis, they should have at least three significant suitors.<\/p>\n

The Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, and Toronto Raptors are expected to pursue Davis, according to Shams Charania of ESPN<\/a>. The Mavericks are said to be open to conversations about Davis, but are not completely set on trading him, and would even still consider a contract extension.<\/p>\n

Not coincidentally, all three teams linked to Davis are potential Eastern Conference contenders. The conference is regarded as more wide open than the West, meaning a number of teams will genuinely believe they have a chance of breaking through and reaching the NBA Finals if they can add a quality player like Davis. The Pistons, in particular, are very young, and might benefit from a veteran like Davis.<\/p>\n

Davis will become eligible to sign a 4-year, $275 million max extension on Aug. 6. Without an extension, he could become a free agent as soon as 2027.<\/p>\n

There have been other teams linked to Davis<\/a> as well, but it would make the most sense for him to go to a contender. Injuries remain an issue for the 32-year-old forward, but he is averaging 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per game for Dallas this season in 10 appearances.<\/p>\n
