Nearly three months removed from Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier getting arrested<\/a> by the FBI amid a months-long gambling investigation, there appears to be \u2014 still \u2014 no end on the horizon to the situation.<\/p>\n This will ultimately take time for the NBA to settle, but several damning details \u2014 such as Charlotte and the NBA allegedly<\/a> knowing about a possible scandal before he was traded in Jan. of 2024 \u2014 have since been uncovered. Miami still doesn\u2019t know <\/a>whether or not it can trade Rozier, nor will there be any uproar<\/a> from the organization publicly.<\/p>\n Nevertheless, Rozier\u2019s unresolved situation<\/a> does add multiple wrinkles to its trade flexibility ahead of February\u2019s deadline. It\u2019s difficult to ignore the implications \u2014 and how shady this appears to be, on the surface, by the NBA. Even one of the Heat\u2019s biggest self-proclaimed haters, former ESPN analyst and founder of The Ringer, Bill Simmons, agrees.<\/p>\n \u201cMy guess is the (Charlotte Hornets) knew. These teams always know,\u201d Simmons said<\/a> on a recent episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast regarding Terry Rozier\u2019s allegations. \u201cSo they trade him to Miami \u2014 odds are they knew that he was being investigated for a gambling scandal. That\u2019s pretty f\u2013ked up. \u2026 Teams will do this from time to time, but that\u2019s pretty f\u2013ked up. <\/p>\n \u201cIt doesn\u2019t seem like Miami can get the pick back. But it seems like they should. And I don\u2019t want to defend the Heat because I hate the Heat. But I think it\u2019s unfair \u2014 it\u2019s their 2027 first-round pick. And it\u2019s crazy that they\u2019re not going to have that pick because they traded for Rozier, who\u2019s under a gambling investigation, and the other team didn\u2019t tell them. Currently, Miami can only trade its 2030 and 2032 first-round picks.<\/p>\n Miami is currently hard-capped below the $195.9 million first apron, a threshold it\u2019s currently $7.2 million under. Rozier\u2019s $26.6 million may be untradable because the league may prohibit any trade involving the 10-year vet. It may also be untradable because, well, Rozier\u2019s prototype isn\u2019t valuable and he\u2019s coming off one of the worst seasons of his career. As we\u2019ve belabored, it may be best<\/a> for the Heat to let his contract expire.<\/p>\n This is a messy situation the NBA is embroiled in \u2014 not only from a PR perspective, but from an ethical perspective.
