Okay, the Marquette men\u2019s basketball game against Creighton is now under 10 minutes to go, so it actually makes sense to start writing this recap. I waited til now because, in theory, there was an awful lot of basketball left to be played, so it was mathematically possible that something different would start happening.<\/p>\n
After a 7-0 start that was 9-2 Marquette after the first six minutes, after a Nigel James three-pointer staked the Golden Eagles to a 15-9 lead with 12:08 left in the first half, Creighton said \u201chey, wait a minute, what if we just start being awesome at home and start making Marquette look like goofs just like Wisconsin and Purdue and Georgetown and Indiana did already this season?<\/p>\n
Bang, 15-0 in less than three minutes, then another 10 straight in less than a minute after a Caedin Hamilton layup. 25-2 run in about four minutes of game time, Creighton up 34-17.<\/p>\n
That was the peak first half margin for the home team, but that doesn\u2019t mean Marquette had a rally in them. I mean, they kind of did, they were chipping away, and a Tre Norman layup got MU within 11 with 2:31 to go. A flicker of hope, maybe, but Creighton scored the next five.<\/p>\n
It was 14 points, 46-32, at the half, and then the Jays scored the first seven points of the second half, even with a Shaka Smart \u201cWHAT DID WE JUST TALK ABOUT?\u201d timeout after the second of the three buckets. An 11-0 run got the margin up to 31. Marquette carved it back down to 20, and then to 18, and let\u2019s see\u2026<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve typed everything interesting that needs to be said about this game, and Creighton is up 79-57 at the under four timeout. Okay, gonna go put together the tags and so forth for this recap, I\u2019ll be back.<\/p>\n
Creighton wins by 21, 84-63, and sets a Big East record for aggregate margin of victory in the first two league games of the season. Glad to be of service, Bluejays.<\/p>\n
Up Next: It will be 10 days before we see Marquette on the court again. When that happens, it will be December 30th, and it will be back at Fiserv Forum for a home game against Seton Hall. Tipoff for that Tuesday night start is scheduled for 6pm Central, and FS1 will have the broadcast. The Pirates are 11-1 on the year and 1-0 in Big East action after beating Providence 72-67 at the AMP on Friday.
