When she was just 11 years old, Paige Anne<\/a> stood in the middle of the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, surrounded by thousands of spectators, and performed the national anthem<\/a> ahead of a matchup between the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder.<\/p>\n

The singer from Idaho Falls had won an audition to perform at the game in 2017 \u2014 an audition that almost didn\u2019t happen because she was feeling sick. But, as her mom recalled to EastIdahoNews.com<\/a> at the time, Anne said a prayer before the audition and her \u201cvoice came out of nowhere\u201d and \u201cblew (the) judges away.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Her performance at that Jazz game ended up going viral and launched a number of opportunities for her, the Deseret News<\/a> previously reported.<\/p>\n

Now, eight years later \u2014 and after an impressive \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d run<\/a> that saw her reach the show\u2019s top 20 \u2014 Anne has again gone viral for performing at a Utah Jazz game. <\/p>\n

But this time, the reason is completely different.<\/p>\n

Since her debut Utah Jazz performance, Anne has sung the national anthem at the Delta Center at least 10 times throughout the years, EastIdahoNews.com<\/a> reported. <\/p>\n

But in retrospect, there was at least one sign that her performance on Dec. 20 would be different from the others.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to get my national anthem down to 90 seconds, and I\u2019ve never had to do that before,\u201d Anne told EastIdahoNews.com<\/a>. \u201cThat probably should\u2019ve perked my ears. They were like, \u2018It\u2019s for broadcasting and sponsors.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n

The real reason, it turns out, was much more surprising. <\/p>\n

As Anne finished the national anthem and started walking off the court, her boyfriend, Bridger Gose, approached her with a ring and got down on one knee. <\/p>\n

The visibly shocked singer also got down on one knee for a second before standing back up to cheers throughout the arena, as seen in an Instagram reel shared by the Utah Jazz<\/a>. She nodded her head and wrapped her arms around Gose. The Jazz Bear then approached her with a bouquet of flowers.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The moment has gone viral, with shares coming from major outlets including ESPN<\/a> and the NBA. <\/p>\n

\u201cSHE SAID YES!\u201d the Utah Jazz shared in a post on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cWhat better way to end your national anthem performance than to get engaged?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cPop star Paige Anne delivered an amazing national anthem and then got proposed to in Utah,\u201d the NBA captioned the video on TikTok. <\/p>\n

To pull off the moment, Gose told EastIdahoNews.com<\/a> he had to get a background check and permission from the NBA, ESPN and the Delta Center. Approval to propose on the court, he said, didn\u2019t come until about four days before the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t think I\u2019d be able to surprise her,\u201d Gose said<\/a>. \u201cI thought she\u2019d find out in some way, so when she was actually surprised, I think we were equally surprised.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a TikTok video<\/a>, Anne said the proposal came as a complete surprise to her \u2014 she and Gose actually had plans to go ring shopping just a couple of days later. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was so awesome that the entirety of the Utah Jazz staff was in on it,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd it was just such an amazing thing for them to do and put together for me. And it was just so special.\u201d <\/p>\n

A look back at Paige Anne\u2019s run on \u2018American Idol\u2019<\/p>\n

Anne was 16 when she tried out for \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d\u2014 an audition that stood out, in part, because she brought snow cones for \u201cIdol\u201d judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, and gave a shoutout to Tropical Sno in her hometown of Idaho Falls, as the Deseret News<\/a> previously reported. <\/p>\n

Although her nerves affected the start of her audition, by the time she got to the end of Pink\u2019s \u201cWhat About Us,\u201d the judges were visibly impressed with her powerhouse vocals.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was praying for that one note, and you hit it,\u201d Richie said, per Deseret News. \u201cAnd that was when I said, \u2018show business.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Although Perry did not vote to push Anne through to the next round, both Richie and Bryan gave the singer a \u201cyes\u201d and sent her through.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis audition means literally the world to me,\u201d Anne said.<\/p>\n

At one point during her \u201cIdol\u201d run in 2023, Anne got eliminated from the competition following a sing-off with a fellow contestant. But when the show had an unexpected dropout, Anne was the first alternate to fill that open slot, per Deseret News<\/a>. <\/p>\n

She was ultimately eliminated after reaching the top 20. <\/p>\n

\u201cNew flex- i\u2019ve been eliminated not ONCE but TWICE on @americanidol<\/a>,\u201d Anne shared on X following the elimination. \u201cAll jokes aside I LOVE YOU ALL and this is just the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n
