{"id":506679,"date":"2025-12-31T02:40:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T02:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/506679\/"},"modified":"2025-12-31T02:40:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T02:40:15","slug":"warriors-celebrate-chris-demarco-as-he-gets-set-to-take-over-liberty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/506679\/","title":{"rendered":"Warriors celebrate Chris DeMarco as he gets set to take over Liberty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After 13 years with the Warriors, assistant coach Chris DeMarco saw his journey with the team come to an end Monday night after Golden State\u2019s win in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p>Fittingly enough, it\u2019s not going to be a far travel for DeMarco to reach his new home. <\/p>\n<p>Following the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/29\/sports\/nets-improved-defense-no-match-for-steph-curry-warriors-as-win-streak-ends-at-three\/#:~:text=The%20Nets%20saw%20their%20season,seven%20of%20their%20prior%2010.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Warriors\u2019 120-107 victory over the Nets<\/a>, DeMarco was already in his new home at Barclays Center; DeMarco <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/10\/sports\/chris-demarco-is-ready-to-turn-his-liberty-dream-into-reality\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">accepted the head coaching role with the Liberty<\/a> in early December after the team\u2019s lengthy search to replace Sandy Brondello.<\/p>\n<p>After he gave his closing remarks to the Warriors, the team drenched him with water bottles in a joyous celebration of what\u2019s to come next for the new WNBA head coach.<\/p>\n<p>After the Liberty made their decision, the team spoke about DeMarco\u2019s winning attitude that he will bring to the East Coast.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38058757\" width=\"734\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/2253242396.jpg\" alt=\"Assistant coach Chris DeMarco talks with the media since this is his last Golden State Warriors games after the game against the Brooklyn Nets on December 29, 2025\" class=\"wp-image-38058757\" style=\"width:734px;height:auto;aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\"  \/>Assistant coach Chris DeMarco, who is the Liberty\u2019s next head coach, talks with the media during the Warriors\u2019 road win over the Nets at Barclays Center on Dec. 29, 2025, his last game with Golden State. NBAE via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChris is a proven winner whose approach has been shaped by more than a decade inside one of basketball\u2019s most successful dynasties,\u201d general manager Jonathan Kolb said in a statement. \u201cHe has seen firsthand what it takes to build a championship standard, and his clarity, adaptability, and player-development expertise will be invaluable as we strive to deliver the best version of the New York Liberty for our players, organization, and amazing fans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/23\/sports\/liberty-coaching-candidates-after-firing-sandy-brondello\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liberty parted ways with Brondello<\/a> during the offseason, less than a year after she led New York to the WNBA title in a thrilling five-game series against the Lynx.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, New York had trouble finding its footing this past season and was eliminated by the Phoenix Mercury in the opening round of the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>DeMarco joined Golden State in 2012 as an assistant coach under then-Warriors head coach Mark Jackson. Sign up for our weekly newsletter before our 2026 launch.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Kerr, on Monday, spoke highly of DeMarco and of what was truly a transformative day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst of all, we just went and saw his office, his new office,\u201d Kerr told reporters before Monday\u2019s game in Brooklyn. \u201cWhat a strange day for him, you know, to come to his new arena, go to his new office, come back to our locker room, help us play a game, try to win a game, and then that\u2019s it. He\u2019s staying here, and it\u2019s almost surreal. So, he\u2019s been a great coach, great friend. I\u2019m going to miss him. Twelve years with him, and hugely valuable to our team. He\u2019s kind of done it all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut he\u2019s really become a great friend, and I really miss him. He\u2019s a huge part of our staff, and we\u2019re going to have to fill in the void that he leaves, both strategically and just who he is as a person, what he means to all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regarded as an offensive specialist, DeMarco\u2019s heralded for the development of Jordan Poole, who now plays for the Pelicans.
