Although the Magic started the season as a top-six team in the Eastern Conference, they have been one of the more disappointing teams this year. Meanwhile, the Bulls have faced their own challenges but have shown promise, particularly with Matas Buzelis making significant contributions while both Coby White and Josh Giddey are sidelined. The Bulls held off the Magic 121-114.

Kevin Don’t ‘Hurt ‘Em

In the first quarter, the Chicago Bulls struggled, scoring only four points in the first four minutes. To address the early deficit, head coach Billy Donovan substituted Ayo Dosunmu and Kevin Huerter into the game. Almost immediately, Huerter made a major impact, helping the Bulls ignite a 10-0 run. This substitution showcased the depth the front office often emphasizes.

Dosunmu set the tone with hustle, quickly recovering a loose ball that had gone out of bounds, which led to a three-pointer by Patrick Williams. Despite the Bulls’ spirited efforts, the Magic responded with a run of their own, sparked by sophomore Tristain Da Silva off the bench.

Ayo Dos Tres

The Bulls remained undeterred by the Magic’s late run, as Dosunmu continued to build on the momentum he created in the first quarter. He relentlessly attacked the rim and played strong defense. Matas Buzelis also contributed significantly, making his defensive presence felt without relying on the stat sheet. He notably rejected Magic guard Jalen Suggs at the rim. Ironically, that was Buzelis’s only point of the quarter, but he made it count.

Story continues below.

More Sports News

 .wp-block-group__inner-container:has(> .embla),
.wp-block-group:where(.alignfull) > .wp-block-group__inner-container:has(> .embla) {
width: calc(100vw – (var(–side-spacing) * 2)) !important;
}
.embla {
position: relative;
overflow: hidden;
}
.embla__container {
display: flex;
flex-wrap: nowrap;
gap: 0 !important;
width: 75%;
}
.embla__slide {
margin-inline-end: var(–column-gap);
}
.embla__arrow,
.embla__arrow:active,
.embla__arrow:target,
.embla__arrow:hover,
.embla__arrow:focus-visible {
display: none;
position: absolute;
top: 50%;
transform: translateY(-50%);
width: 40px;
height: 40px;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
line-height: 0;
background: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.75);
color: var(–color-primary);
border-radius: 100vw;

 svg {
width: 24px;
}
}
.embla__prev {
left: 0;
}
.embla__next {
right: 0;
}

The Bulls won the quarter, scoring 37 points and tying the game as they headed into halftime.

Breakout Party

In the second half, Jalen Smith put the Bulls ahead with a three-pointer. But Paolo Banchero quickly countered with a bucket near the basket. Buzelis then showcased his skills, contributing to the Bulls’ next ten points by attacking the rim, playmaking, and converting free throws. His potential was on full display.

After several back-and-forth exchanges, the game came down to the final seconds. As Buzelis prepared to shoot, he opted to pass to Tre Jones, who then hit a mid-range jumper, extending the Bulls’ lead to four points. This basket solidified the Bulls’ victory. It was a strong demonstration of team depth, with every player on the court making a significant impact on the game.

What’s On Tap Next?

The Chicago Bulls will stay home as LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets come into town on Saturday.
