The Cavaliers \u201care concerned\u201d that talks over the potential use of county sin tax money for capital repairs at a proposed Browns Brook Park stadium<\/a> \u201ccould crush efforts to increase the tax to help pay for the upkeep of Rocket Arena and Progressive Field,\u201d according to a front-page piece by Exner & Pelzer of the Cleveland PLAIN DEALER. In a letter circulated Thursday, Rock Entertainment Group CEO Nic Barlage described the prospect of increasing the sin tax as \u201cdoomed to fail\u201d if it is merged with the Brook Park stadium. The Guardians confirmed late Thursday that owner Paul Dolan \u201cwrote a similar letter regarding the \u2018modernization of the sin tax\u2019\u201d but did \u201cnot provide a copy of the letter or other details.\u201d The Cavs letter showed \u201cfriction between the Cavs\u2019 arena interests and the Browns\u2019 suburban stadium push\u201d and \u201cintroduced for the first time publicly efforts to formally link county sin tax money to the new stadium.\u201d County sin tax money currently \u201cis split three ways\u201d between the arena, ballpark and lakefront football stadium under an agreement between the city and the county. The Cavs letter implied that \u201ca move was afoot\u201d to \u201clock in a portion of the sin tax money\u201d for the Brook Park stadium\u2019s future needs.
