{"id":525610,"date":"2026-01-08T20:00:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T20:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/525610\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T20:00:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T20:00:11","slug":"warriors-have-failed-steph-curry-kendrick-perkins-believes-nbc-sports-bay-area-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/525610\/","title":{"rendered":"Warriors have \u2018failed\u2019 Steph Curry, Kendrick Perkins believes \u2013 NBC Sports Bay Area &#038; California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At 37 years old,\u00a0Warriors\u00a0star Steph Curry still is playing elite basketball.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But\u00a0one NBA analyst believes the team he has played with for his entire 17-year career has not done right by him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone has failed Steph in this organization,\u201d ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins said on \u201cNBA Today.\u201d \u201cWe\u2019re\u00a0talking about an all-time great&#8230;\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0talking about Steve Kerr, Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler, they\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0get right.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KendrickPerkins?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">@KendrickPerkins<\/a> on the Warriors:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone has failed Steph in this organization. We\u2019re talking about a window where he\u2019s trying to max out to win a championship . . .\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Bqsxc3jw8b\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/Bqsxc3jw8b<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Chef (@CurryForGame) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CurryForGame\/status\/2009022269809676630?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">January 7, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After\u00a0a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nba\/golden-state-warriors\/steph-curry-giannis-win-analysis-bucks\/1905482\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">120-113 win over the Milwaukee Bucks<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0Wednesday, the Warriors improved their record to 20-18\u00a0and remained in eighth place in the Western Conference standings.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a less-than-ideal position for Golden State as it approaches the halfway point of the regular season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s\u00a0particularly disappointing considering the improved play towards the end of last season when they\u00a0acquired\u00a0Jimmy Butler, a move\u00a0in which would maximize Curry and the Warriors\u2019 championship aspirations\u00a0as the\u00a0superstar\u2019s\u00a0window gets smaller.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis man is averaging 28 points on 47-percent shooting right now, damn near 40-percent from the three, and y\u2019all\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0get right,\u201d Perkins said. \u201cWe\u2019re\u00a0talking about a window where\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0trying to max out, meaning, to go win a championship. You\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0trade for Jimmy Butler last year just to come in and sign him to an extension to be number eight in the Western Conference.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The lackluster record is a complete regression from the Warriors\u2019 23-8 finish to the 2024-25 NBA season after Butler\u2019s acquisition.\u00a0Time is running out to get back to their winning ways, but\u00a0Golden State\u2019s 7-3 record in their last 10 games shows some life.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Perkins called out the organization for not\u00a0being able to\u00a0utilize\u00a0young players such as Jonathan\u00a0Kuminga\u00a0and Moses Moody. He characterizes it as a failure\u00a0of maximizing\u00a0Curry\u2019s talent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0up with your player development? Why can\u2019t Moses Moody and Jonathan\u00a0Kuminga\u00a0thrive under Steve Kerr?\u201d Perkins posed. \u201cThey are failing Steph Curry to the max right now.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Moody is averaging a career-high 10.5 points in 36 games played this season. He has been inserted into a now-consistently used starting lineup, notching 25 games started so far this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kuminga\u2019s\u00a0story is different, slipping out of the rotation completely after a hot start to the season. He\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nba\/golden-state-warriors\/jonathan-kuminga-trade-rumors\/1905311\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">likely would be\u00a0an asset offered<\/a>\u00a0by the Warriors if the team makes a move before the Feb. 5 trade deadline.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps a\u00a0big trade-acquisition for a second straight year would move the needle.
