{"id":528907,"date":"2026-01-11T07:19:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-11T07:19:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/528907\/"},"modified":"2026-01-11T07:19:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T07:19:11","slug":"utah-jazz-suffer-55-point-loss-to-hornets-on-home-floor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/528907\/","title":{"rendered":"Utah Jazz Suffer 55-Point Loss To Hornets On Home Floor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SALT LAKE CITY \u2013\u00a0The Utah Jazz suffered one of the worst losses in franchise history, falling to the Charlotte Hornets 150-95.<\/p>\n<p>Brice Sensabaugh scored 26 points to lead the Jazz, while Tre Mann led the Hornets with 20.<\/p>\n<p>The Jazz were without starters Lauri Markkanen, Jusuf Nurkic, and Ace Bailey in the loss.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kslsports.com\/professional-sports\/utah-jazz-nurkic-love\/568781\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Related: Kevin Love, Jusuf Nurkic Praise Utah Jazz Culture<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jazz Barely Avoid Series Of Franchise Worsts Against Hornets<\/p>\n<p>The Jazz\u2019s 55-point loss marked the worst defeat of the Will Hardy era, but the team narrowly avoided setting new franchise records for biggest halftime deficit and largest loss overall.<\/p>\n<p>The Jazz trailed the Hornets 77-30 with 1:51 left in the second quarter, threatening their record 40-point halftime deficit set on December 1, 2019, in a blowout loss to the Toronto Raptors.<\/p>\n<p>However, a late 8-0 run capped by Isaiah Collier\u2019s buzzer-beating layup trimmed the gap to 39 at halftime.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Craziest stat of the Jazz\/Hornets night by far.<\/p>\n<p>Despite scoring 150 points, the only Hornets player to break the 20 point mark was Tre Mann, and he did it in just 12 minutes!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ben Anderson (@BensHoops) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BensHoops\/status\/2010212707006574711?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">January 11, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The team\u2019s worst loss in franchise history came on March 14, 1979, when the New Orleans Jazz fell to the Milwaukee Bucks 158-102.<\/p>\n<p>In the fourth quarter, a Tre Mann jumpshot with 53 seconds left extended the Hornets\u2019 lead to 57.<\/p>\n<p>But, on the ensuing possession, Cody Williams earned a trip to the foul line and knocked down both free throws to cut the deficit to 55.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than trying to score, the Hornets let the shot clock expire, sparing the Jazz the embarrassment of a new franchise-worst loss.<\/p>\n<p>Game Ended Before It Started<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s loss was never close. The Hornets jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the opening three minutes, stretched the score to 33-8, and led 45-14 after one.<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte scored 51 more points from the three-point line, knocking down 24 deep balls to seven for the Jazz. The Jazz shot just 1-12 from three in the first half.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUntil really late in the game, we couldn\u2019t throw it in the ocean,\u201d Jazz coach Will Hardy said. \u201cSo that\u2019s a hard game. The three-point line in today\u2019s game can make games feel really, really nasty, and so that\u2019s one that we\u2019ve got to put away and get onto the road trip.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Hornets recorded a stunning 41 second-chance points, shooting 15-23 on second-chance opportunities. The Jazz managed just eight second-chance points on nine attempts.<\/p>\n<p>Jazz Leave For Five-Game Road Trip<\/p>\n<p>After their near-record loss, the Jazz face a tougher schedule as they embark on a five-game road trip.<\/p>\n<p>At 13-25, the Jazz already own the league\u2019s sixth-worst record and could drop further in the standings when they return home on January 20.<\/p>\n<p>The road trip opens in Cleveland on Monday, heads to Chicago on Wednesday, then features back-to-back games in Dallas on Thursday and Saturday, and wraps up in San Antonio on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kslsports.com\/508204\/jazz-notes-newsletter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Sign up for the new Jazz Notes newsletter!
