Austin Reaves remains the Los Angeles Lakers<\/a>\u2019 most valuable trade chip this season.<\/p>\n

If the franchise wants to make a big-time deal with an Eastern or Western Conference squad, they shouldn\u2019t hesitate to make Reaves the featured asset to help a beneficial trade materialize.<\/p>\n

After all, Reaves, who\u2019s currently nursing a grade 2 left gastrocnemius strain, is performing at a phenomenally high level this season as the Lakers\u2019 No. 2 scoring option.<\/p>\n

Reaves is averaging 26.6 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game with Los Angeles in Year 5. According to the Stein Line\u2019s Jake Fischer, the Lakers have made their stance clear<\/a> on trading Reaves before the deadline.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don’t think the Lakers are involved with Trae Young whatsoever,” Fischer said before the Atlanta Hawks<\/a> traded Young to the Washington Wizards<\/a>. “And I don’t think the Lakers have any interest in trading Austin Reaves either.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Lakers\u2019 refusal to part with Reaves will limit their ability to maximize the rest of the trade season. It\u2019s safe to say most, if not all, rebuilding franchises would love to start a new era of basketball with Reaves running the show nightly.<\/p>\n

From the Lakers\u2019 perspective, the storied organization would land a game-changing asset that could help it challenge the defending-champion Oklahoma City Thunder<\/a> in the Western Conference.<\/p>\n

With Reaves likely remaining with the Lakers moving forward, it\u2019s challenging to envision Los Angeles\u2019 roster improving.<\/p>\n
