{"id":533805,"date":"2026-01-13T12:19:27","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T12:19:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/533805\/"},"modified":"2026-01-13T12:19:27","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T12:19:27","slug":"portland-trail-blazers-to-ask-oregon-lawmakers-for-help-funding-moda-center-renovations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/533805\/","title":{"rendered":"Portland Trail Blazers to ask Oregon lawmakers for help funding Moda Center renovations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lawmakers will return to Salem in February for a short legislative session, and the Blazers plan to seek legislative help to help fund Moda Center renovations.<\/p>\n<p>PORTLAND, Oregon \u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kgw.com\/blazers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Portland Trail Blazers<\/a> are expected to ask the Oregon Legislature to help fund renovations to the aging Moda Center when lawmakers return to Salem next month.<\/p>\n<p>The request was first reported by The Oregonian. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/blazers\/2026\/01\/trail-blazers-gear-up-for-legislative-ask-that-would-guarantee-teams-future-in-portland-bill-oram.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">According to that report<\/a>, the Blazers are considering a roughly $600 million renovation of their longtime arena in Portland&#8217;s Rose Quarter and want the state to play a role in financing the project.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal would closely mirror legislation approved by lawmakers in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kgw.com\/article\/sports\/mlb\/portland-mlb\/portland-diamond-project-passes-oregon-house-mlb\/283-98fd1a1c-6139-4f2b-b03e-f939c8994c89\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">2025 for the Portland Diamond Project<\/a>, which sought to use redirected state tax revenue to help fund a potential Major League Baseball stadium in Portland. Under the Blazers&#8217; plan, state income taxes already paid by players, team employees and visiting players would be redirected to arena improvements rather than deposited into the state&#8217;s general fund.<\/p>\n<p>Chad Doing, host of <a href=\"https:\/\/ripcityradio.iheart.com\/featured\/rip-city-drive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Rip City Drive<\/a>, said upgrades to the Moda Center are critical as the franchise prepares for a change in ownership.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s important for the Blazers to get the improvements that are necessary to continue to keep up, especially with a new owner coming into town,&#8221; Doing said.<\/p>\n<p>The Blazers have pushed for state and local partnerships in recent years to help pay for Moda Center upgrades.
