The Milwaukee Bucks were booed off their own floor Tuesday night. Giannis Antetokounmpo didn\u2019t take it quietly \u2014 because he booed back.<\/p>\n
After a flat, lifeless first half against a short-handed Minnesota Timberwolves side \u2014 who didn\u2019t even have either Anthony Edwards or Rudy Gobert \u2014 the overwhelmed Bucks trudged into halftime down 76-45.<\/p>\n
The response from the Fiserv Forum crowd was loud. And growing.<\/p>\n
Thumbs Down, Message Sent<\/p>\n
Early in the third quarter, Antetokounmpo drilled a basket \u2014 and then turned toward the stands, flashing a thumbs-down gesture.<\/p>\n

This was personal.<\/p>\n Giannis later admitted he couldn\u2019t remember a single time he\u2019d been booed at home.<\/p>\n \u201cNever\u2026 just kind of new for me,” he said. \u201cI thrive through adversity. I thrive when people don\u2019t believe in me\u2026 it doesn\u2019t really matter.”<\/p>\n Then he paused.<\/p>\n \u201cI like it though. I love it.”<\/p>\n \u2018When I Get Booed, I Boo Back\u2019<\/p>\n Pressed further, Antetokounmpo made it clear the gesture wasn\u2019t playful.<\/p>\n \u201cI was definitely booing back,” he said. \u201cWhen I get booed, I boo back. I\u2019ve been doing it all season.”<\/p>\n But then, reporters pointed out the difference \u2014 this was home.<\/p>\n \u201cIt does not matter,” Giannis shot back.<\/p>\n \u201cI play basketball for my teammates, for myself and my family. When people don\u2019t believe in me, I don\u2019t tend to be with them. I tend to be against them.”<\/p>\n While Giannis insisted he wouldn\u2019t tell fans how to behave, the frustration was obvious.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve never been a part of something like that before, and I don\u2019t think it\u2019s fair. I don\u2019t.”<\/p>\n He added pointedly, \u201cI don\u2019t think anybody has the right to tell me how I should act on the basketball court after I\u2019ve been here 13 years and I\u2019m basically the all-time leader in everything.”<\/p>\n A Loss That Broke the Tone<\/p>\n This wasn\u2019t just another defeat.
