{"id":538779,"date":"2026-01-15T17:37:12","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T17:37:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/538779\/"},"modified":"2026-01-15T17:37:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T17:37:12","slug":"warriors-forward-wasted-no-time-demanding-a-trade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/538779\/","title":{"rendered":"Warriors forward wasted no time demanding a trade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the calendar turning to Jan. 15, 11 NBA players are now eligible to be traded. <\/p>\n<p>One of them is Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, and the 23-year-old didn\u2019t waste any time demanding a trade from Golden State, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/47619565\/sources-jonathan-kuminga-demanding-trade-away-warriors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the first day he becomes eligible to be moved, fifth-year forward\u00a0Jonathan Kuminga\u00a0has demanded a trade away from the\u00a0Golden State Warrior<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/gs\/golden-state-warriors\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">s<\/a>, league sources tell ESPN.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the offseason, <a href=\"https:\/\/larrybrownsports.com\/basketball\/jonathan-kuminga-warriors-new-contract\/719698\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kuminga signed a two-year, $48.5 million deal,<\/a> which means he wasn\u2019t eligible to be traded until Jan. 15. <\/p>\n<p>However, it has been a rocky tenure since he was selected by the Warriors at No. 7 overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. <\/p>\n<p>Kuminga reportedly had <a href=\"https:\/\/larrybrownsports.com\/basketball\/steve-kerr-jonathan-kuminga-warriors-frustration\/626620\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">issues with head coach Steve Kerr<\/a>, but he did start the first 12 games of the 2025-26 season. <\/p>\n<p>As of Thursday, Kuminga has played in just 18 games with 13 starts, and he has been out since December 19. The 23-year-old has a $24.3 million team option for next season, so interested teams could hope he picks up the option or view him as a rental for a playoff run. <\/p>\n<p>Charania added that the Warriors are \u201cprioritizing expiring contracts\u201d in exchange for Kuminga, and teams such as the Portland Trail Blazers and New Orleans Pelicans were <a href=\"https:\/\/larrybrownsports.com\/basketball\/3-new-teams-warriors-jonathan-kuminga-blazers-pelicans-wizards\/734860\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recently linked as potential suitors<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The 2023-24 season was Kuminga\u2019s best since coming into the league. He averaged 16.1 PPG with 4.8 rebounds in 74 games, so perhaps a change of scenery is best for both sides at this point. <\/p>\n<p>The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 5, so it will be worth watching to see if this Kuminga saga finally ends. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"With the calendar turning to Jan. 15, 11 NBA players are now eligible to be traded.
