Jan. 15 was a date that many general managers in the NBA had circled on the calendar, as 11 players who signed free agent contracts with their previous team over the offseason became trade eligible<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Included in that group is Philadelphia 76ers<\/a> guard Quentin Grimes, who signed a one-year, $8.7 million qualifying offer with the Sixers prior to the start of the 2025-26 NBA season. That means that Grimes is now officially eligible to be traded by Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

Now, that doesn\u2019t mean the Sixers will want to move Grimes, who has been a key cog for the team off of the bench this season, but they could try to.<\/p>\n

Ultimately though, Grimes would have the final say on any potential trade, as he has a no-trade clause included in his current contract. So, if the Sixers had a deal in place involving Grimes that they liked, but he didn\u2019t like it, he could opt against it.<\/p>\n

On the season, Grimes has appeared in 37 games for Philadelphia and posted averages of 14.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 31.6 minutes per performance.<\/p>\n

Given the fact that he will be an unrestricted free agent over the offseason and will likely command a contract that will be too rich for Philadelphia’s blood, it would make sense for the Sixers to try to potentially recoup some value for Grimes prior to the trade deadline, as opposed to losing him for nothing in free agency.<\/p>\n

But again, Grimes would need to approve of any deal, and that could severely limit Philadelphia’s options.<\/p>\n

At this point, the most likely scenario is that Grimes will finish out the current campaign as a member of the Sixers and then hit the open market next summer. But, he’ll still be a name to watch leading up to the deadline on Feb. 5.<\/p>\n
