New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson<\/a> has been linked to the Washington Wizards in NBA trade rumors. <\/p>\n

NBA sources told Josh Robbins of The Athletic<\/a> that Williamson \u201cwould be someone the Wizards would have to consider if the price is right.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Wizards just acquired Trae Young<\/a> from the Atlanta Hawks. <\/p>\n

\u201cWith the Young trade as the template of a low-cost trade for a distressed asset, league sources speculated that New Orleans Pelicans big man Zion Williamson would be someone the Wizards would have to consider if the price is right,\u201d Robbins wrote. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Pelicans reportedly have told teams\u00a0they\u2019re not going to trade Williamson, Herb Jones, Trey Murphy III<\/a>, Derik Queen<\/a> or Jeremiah Fears<\/a>. As it pertains to Williamson only, however, league sources expressed skepticism to\u00a0The Athletic\u00a0about that report. \u2026 To be crystal clear: The Wizards trading for Williamson appears to be an extreme long shot. But it was mentioned as a possibility by enough league sources that it at least should be mentioned here.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven at a low cost, trading for Williamson would be a risk from a health standpoint and, perhaps, from a culture perspective. But one league source who spoke with\u00a0The Athletic\u00a0cited the Wizards\u2019 trade for Young and last summer\u2019s trade for Cam Whitmore<\/a> as evidence that, under the right circumstances, the Wizards are willing to trade for high-upside players who have clear on-court deficiencies that have frustrated their prior teams.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williamson is making $39.4 million this season. He\u2019ll make $42.2 million next season and $44.9 million during the 2027-28 season, the final year of his contract. <\/p>\n

A two-time All-Star, Williamson is averaging 22.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game this season. He\u2019s played in only 243 games since being the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. <\/p>\n

The 2026 NBA trade deadline is February 5 at 3 p.m. ET. It will be fascinating to see if the Pelicans trade Williamson, who has career averages of 24.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. <\/p>\n

New Orleans is in last place in the West, while Washington is in 14th place in the East. <\/p>\n
