The trade rumor mill has been swirling around the Milwaukee Bucks<\/a> this season, recently heating up as the deadline approaches. Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a> is out of the lineup currently due to injury, but that hasn\u2019t stopped many from speculating that a trade could be on the horizon for the franchise icon.<\/p>\n

Recently, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported on why it might be more likely<\/a> that a trade gets done next offseason, particularly on draft day, rather than in the next couple of weeks for Milwaukee.<\/p>\n

\u201cSaid one league source particularly well-versed in Bucks matters: \u2018This is shaping up to be a draft-day kind of thing.\u2019 Said another: \u2018It\u2019s happening.\u2019 Meaning a trade in conjunction with the draft if not now,\u201d reported Fischer on Marc Stein\u2019s Substack.<\/p>\n

Fischer also reported on what the Bucks stand to gain by waiting until the draft to get something done.<\/p>\n

\u201cWaiting until after the NBA\u2019s lottery drawing in May to truly launch into the process of parting with their Face of the Franchise via trade would at least enable the Bucks to know exactly what potential trade partners can offer in terms of 2026 draft capital,\u201d he reported.<\/p>\n

However, this does not come without its downsides due to Antetokounmp\u2019s current contract situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cAntetokounmpo and agent Alex Saratsis would wield the very real threat of leaving town after just one season, likely dissuading certain teams from pursuing a Giannis trade,\u201d he noted, in the scenario that the Bucks sent the star somewhere he did not want to go.<\/p>\n

Other teams\u2019 knowledge of this, of course, would limit what the Bucks could theoretically get back in a trade for the star.<\/p>\n

Overall, there is clearly much still left to sort out on the Antetokounpo front before this season is over. The NBA trade deadline is set for February 5.<\/p>\n
