Tyler Tanner led four Vanderbilt players in double figures with 24 points and five assists, and the 15th-ranked Commodores (17-3, 4-3 SEC) pounded Mississippi State (10-10, 2-5).<\/p>\n
Duke Miles added 17 points for Vanderbilt, Tyler Nickel scored 13 and Devin McGlockton had 10. <\/p>\n
Vandy made nine of its first 10 shots during a game-opening 22-4 run and took a 51-30 lead into halftime. The lead swelled to as many as 34 in the second half as the Commodores cruised to their largest SEC road win since 2013 and ended a three-game losing streak.<\/p>\n
Jayden Epps was the only player in double figures for Mississippi State, with 14 points. King Grace scored eight and Josh Hubbard had seven. The Bulldogs shot 34.5 percent from the field overall, and were 5-for-26 from 3-point range. They have lost five games in a row after starting 2-0 in the SEC.<\/p>\n
Mississippi State plays at LSU on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.<\/p>\n
Coastal Carolina 85, Southern Miss 67<\/p>\n
Rasheed Jones made seven of Coastal Carolina\u2019s 14 3-pointers as the Chanticleers (13-9, 6-4 Sun Belt Conference) raced past Southern Miss (11-11, 5-5) on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Jones finished with 24 points and was one of three Coastal Carolina players to score 20 or more. Joshua Beadle finished with 22 and AJ Dancler had 20 points and eight rebounds. The three starters also combined for 12 assists.<\/p>\n
Tylik Weeks scored 22 points for Southern Miss, Izzy Hart had 18 and Djahi Binet scored 16. The Golden Eagles only got four points from their bench, however, never led, and couldn\u2019t keep up with Coastal\u2019s long-range barrage.<\/p>\n
Coastal made its first nine shots, including five 3-pointers, to take a 23-9 lead six minutes in. Coastal shot 56.9 percent (29-for-51) from the field overall for the game, and 60.9 percent in the second half.<\/p>\n
Southern Miss was 4-for-13 from 3-point range, and attempted one less 3-pointer than Coastal made. The Golden Eagles were 24-for-54 (44.4 percent) from the field overall.<\/p>\n
Southern Miss lost all four games on a Sun Belt road swing. It will return home to Reed Green Coliseum for two games next weekend, against App State on Thursday, Jan. 29, and James Madison on Saturday, Jan. 31.
