<\/p>\n(BCSNN) \u2013\u00a0UAB earned its fifth consecutive road victory Wednesday night, defeating UTSA 83-73 behind four double\u2011figure scorers. The Blazers (13-8, 4-4 American) were led by Daniel Rivera\u2019s 17 points, while Chance Westry added 14, Jacob Meyer 13 and KyeRon Lindsay\u2011Martin 10. Lindsay\u2011Martin finished one rebound shy of a double\u2011double.<\/p>\n
UTSA (4-17, 0-9) was paced by Brent Moss with 19 points and seven rebounds. Jamir Simpson added 18.<\/p>\n
Dayjaun Anderson made his first Division I start for UAB and scored his most points since Dec. 1. Rivera scored 11 of his 17 in the first half, his highest total since Jan. 14. UAB won the rebounding battle 41-35 for the first time since the Tulane game on Jan. 14, and Meyer reached double figures for the fifth straight contest.<\/p>\n
UAB shot 49 percent from the field, 33 percent from three and 66 percent at the line, finishing 14\u2011for\u201116 on free throws down the stretch. The Blazers made seven more free throws than UTSA.<\/p>\n
UTSA opened the game with a layup from Simpson and built a 7-3 lead. Rivera\u2019s early three and an Ahmad Robinson\u2011led 5-0 run helped UAB move ahead 17-15. The Blazers closed the half by hitting three of their final four shots, including Rivera\u2019s 11th point, and led 38-36 at halftime.<\/p>\n
A 9-2 UAB run midway through the second half pushed the margin to 60-53. The Blazers then went four minutes without a field goal but converted six free throws to maintain a 68-64 lead. Simpson\u2019s three\u2011pointer cut the deficit to 68-67 with five minutes remaining, but UAB responded with a 12-4 closing run and held UTSA without a field goal on seven of its final nine possessions.<\/p>\n
UAB won 83-73.<\/p>\n
