Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton is not expected to play in the 2025-26 season as he recovers from a ruptured Achilles tendon<\/a>, but he\u2019s getting closer to game shape.<\/p>\n

He just might need to shed a few pounds first.<\/p>\n

Haliburton, 25, appeared on the Tuesday, January 27, episode of LeBron James<\/a>\u2019 \u201cMind The Game<\/a>\u201d podcast, where he gave an update on his rehab following the devastating injury he sustained in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand it is allowing me to grow in different ways,\u201d he said of his injury. \u201cThat\u2019s something I\u2019m really trying to focus on through my rehab, through my time to get back: Being more physical. Like, bro, I\u2019m up today. I was 180 pounds on Game 7 day. I\u2019m 210 right now. Like, I\u2019m up 30 pounds bro.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIndiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton\u2019s dad, John Haliburton, will reportedly be allowed to attend the NBA team\u2019s upcoming game after his previous ban. ESPN reported on Monday, May 26, that John could watch the Pacers\u2019 Game 4 match-up against the New York Knicks in person from a suite. (The Pacers are currently leading the Eastern [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

Haliburton explained that his weight gain is at least partially intentional. Watching from the sidelines has allowed him to view the game differently, taking parts of other players\u2019 games and applying them to his own. One thing he realized was he needed to be more physical in order to get to the free throw line more often.<\/p>\n

The rest of that weight gain can be attributed to some extra snacking. Those pounds will come off as his rehab continues to ramp up.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously when I start to run I\u2019m gonna get that off,\u201d he told James, 41. \u201cSome of that\u2019s not good because I\u2019ve been drowning my sorrows in cookies and ice cream and stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

While any injury that causes an athlete to miss significant time could be tough on his or her psyche, Haliburton\u2019s was especially brutal, coming in a losing effort in the deciding game of the NBA Finals and forcing him out of the entire next season.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAfter leading an unbelievable comeback in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton celebrated the moment with his girlfriend, Jade Jones. Jones posted a video via her Instagram Story on Wednesday, May 21, showing the moment she and Haliburton, 25, embraced on the court in an empty Madison Square Garden [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

Seven months later, Haliburton has found peace amid his rehab.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really am glad for where I am. I\u2019m thankful for it,\u201d he said. \u201cThe process has sucked. There\u2019s been good days, bad days, there\u2019s days where I sit there and I keep asking \u2018why is this happening to me?\u2019 It\u2019s hard for me to understand in this moment, but I understand it\u2019s allowing me to grow in different ways: to grow in my faith, to grow in all these ways that are good for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the court, he is back to playing pick-up, but as he humorously explained to James, he has a long way to go before he\u2019s back to peak form<\/p>\n

\u201cI just started playing 3-on-3 and 4-on-4 full court,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s been good to be with the [player development] interns and stuff. It\u2019s been funny because as I\u2019ve started playing with the interns and [assistant coach] Jannero Pargo. I\u2019m like, \u2018Ooh, I can play in an NBA game right now\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cI\u2019m guarding [Bennedict Mathurin]\u2026 He hesi\u2019d me one time. He was at the rim, I was still at the 3-point line. I was like, \u2018Ohhh.\u2019 I still got some time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Pacers have struggled mightily without Haliburton this season. As of Wednesday, January 28, Indiana is 11-36, the worst record in the NBA.
