SAN FRANCISCO \u2013 Warriors coach Steve Kerr<\/a> apologized for spreading what he called \u201cmisinformation\u201d during a recent press conference in Minneapolis<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing in Minneapolis for those four days was incredibly emotional and powerful, and it was difficult time for all of us,\u201d Kerr said during his pregame press conference on Friday. \u201cAt the end of those four days<\/a>, a pretty emotional time, I misspoke, and so I apologize for the misinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n

While in the city that has seen a surge of immigration enforcement and resulting protests, the Warriors had one of their two games postponed after immigration personnel shot and killed Alex Pretti.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When given a microphone after losing to the Wolves on Monday, Kerr blasted Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for their actions in Minneapolis, which included taking 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos<\/a> into custody.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not like we\u2019re rooting out violent criminals,\u201d Kerr said. \u201cThey\u2019re taking 5-year-old kindergartners and U.S. citizens and detaining people. Immigration is a problem that needs to be addressed, but it needs to be addressed by Congress, legislatively, not by a military force in the streets pulling people from their homes.\u201d<\/p>\n

During Friday\u2019s pregame media availability before playing the Pistons, Kerr clarified his statements.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI definitely misspoke, and I knew that ICE was arresting some criminals, and I immediately regretted it, because I knew that to be the case,\u201d Kerr said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, he did not regret criticizing the organization for its treatment of citizens and children.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBut my point is that they\u2019re also arresting people and detaining citizens and people who should not be detained, and that the manner in which they\u2019re doing it, as you see, is riling everybody up all over the country,\u201d Kerr said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kerr has been a vocal critic of president Donald Trump\u2019s administration during both of his terms. Just this season, Kerr has attended a No Kings rally<\/a>, called for gun control laws multiple times<\/a> and has blasted immigration enforcement personnel for the death of Minnesota woman Renee Nicole Good<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
