The Warriors initially\u00a0shipped\u00a0Andrew Wiggins<\/a>\u00a0to the Miami Heat in a trade to\u00a0acquire\u00a0Jimmy Butler<\/a>\u00a0nearly one\u00a0year ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With Butler out for the\u00a0remainder\u00a0of the season,\u00a0could general manager Mike Dunleavy swing a deal to retrieve\u00a0the player who played a key role in the Warriors\u2019 2021-22 NBA title run?\u00a0<\/p>\n

It doesn’t appear he will, as ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported in a story published Thursda<\/a>y, citing a team source, that Golden State has not and does not plan to engage with Miami about a Wiggins trade.<\/p>\n

Wiggins had a solid tenure with Golden State;\u00a0he arrived\u00a0ahead of the deadline in 2020 and\u00a0departed\u00a0ahead of the deadline in\u00a02025. He earned one\u00a0all-star\u00a0appearance and\u00a0averaged 16.7 points on 46.4-percent shooting from the field\u00a0in 307 games played with the Warriors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although the Warriors and their fans love Wiggins, the\u00a0big fish\u00a0on the trade market this season is Milwaukee Bucks star\u00a0Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a>. The Warriors have\u00a0expressed willingness to put a big offer<\/a>\u00a0on the table for the Bucks star, according to Slater.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But if the Warriors\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0reel in Antetokounmpo,\u00a0there is no other player on the current trade market that could draw this \u201clevel of asset aggression\u201d from the\u00a0team, according to Slater.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Along with Wiggins, Golden State\u00a0has been linked\u00a0to Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr.<\/a>\u00a0throughout the season.\u00a0But\u00a0\u201cteam sources continue to throw cold water on those ideas,\u201d Slater wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Slater also reports that the Warriors have \u201cmaintained\u201d a level of interest in New Orleans Pelicans\u00a0forward\u00a0Trey Murphy III<\/a>, but that the Pelicans front office is reluctant to break up their young core.\u00a0Additionally,\u00a0per NBC Sports Bay Area\u2019s Dalton Johnson<\/a>, the Pelicans\u2019 asking price could cost the Warriors three first-round picks, which might reach the level of asset aggression that Dunleavy\u00a0would want to avoid for anyone who\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0Antetokounmpo.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It might be a Giannis-or-bust trade deadline for the Warriors, and any reunions with former players seem unlikely.\u00a0<\/p>\n
