{"id":573766,"date":"2026-01-31T22:04:23","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T22:04:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/573766\/"},"modified":"2026-01-31T22:04:23","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T22:04:23","slug":"ty-simpson-opting-out-of-nfl-draft-to-transfer-would-tarnish-my-legacy-at-alabama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/573766\/","title":{"rendered":"Ty Simpson: Opting out of NFL Draft to transfer would \u2018tarnish my legacy\u2019 at Alabama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson has no reservations about entering the NFL draft and spurning offers to enter the transfer portal and play for another school.<\/p>\n<p>Simpson said he is \u201cabsolutely\u201d content with his decision and believes it would \u201ctarnish my legacy\u201d had he played for a different school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no doubt in my mind that the last jersey I wanted to wear in college was the Alabama Crimson Tide jersey,\u201d Simpson told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.al.com\/alabamafootball\/2026\/01\/ty-simpson-on-why-he-rejected-65-million-offer-last-thing-i-wanted-to-do-was-tarnish-my-legacy.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">AL.com<\/a> on Wednesday. \u201cI came there. I stayed there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Simpson, a five-star recruit in the Class of 2022, sat three seasons behind Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe, waiting for his opportunity to start in 2025. Simpson threw for 3,567 yards (second in the SEC behind Ole Miss\u2019 Trinidad Chambliss) and 28 touchdowns against just five interceptions. Simpson\u2019s play led the Crimson Tide to an 11-4 record and a Rose Bowl berth in the second round of the College Football Playoff, where they lost 38-3 to eventual national champion Indiana.<\/p>\n<p>Simpson\u2019s agent, Peter Webb, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6968667\/2026\/01\/14\/ty-simpson-alabama-nil-nfl-draft-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told The Athletic<\/a> earlier this month that the quarterback turned down multiple lucrative offers from other schools to turn pro. He did not specifically say which schools offered NIL deals to Simpson, but said the proposals were in the low-to-mid seven-figures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a time where kids transfer for more money at every possible turn and make it a transactional decision based on finances, Ty is a unicorn and took the road less traveled,\u201d Webb said.<\/p>\n<p>Simpson told AL.com that playing for another school was never in the cards for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last thing I wanted to do was tarnish my legacy and go somewhere else where I didn\u2019t go out of high school, and I didn\u2019t want to play,\u201d he said. \u201cHopefully, in the draft, whenever my name gets written on a card, they write the University of Alabama on there.
