{"id":574423,"date":"2026-02-01T05:09:34","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T05:09:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/574423\/"},"modified":"2026-02-01T05:09:34","modified_gmt":"2026-02-01T05:09:34","slug":"pacers-notes-bradley-toppin-furphy-trade-deadline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/574423\/","title":{"rendered":"Pacers Notes: Bradley, Toppin, Furphy, Trade Deadline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bradlto01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-31_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tony Bradley<\/a> is back on the free agent market after his second 10-day contract with the Pacers expired Wednesday night, but there\u2019s a chance he could return to the team later this season, writes <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indystar.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/pacers\/2026\/01\/31\/nba-news-tony-bradley-return-pacers-trade-deadline-rick-carlisle-rumors-stats\/88455471007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star<\/a>. Indiana\u2019s only option would be to sign Bradley to a standard contract, and coach Rick Carlisle told reporters before tonight\u2019s game that a decision likely won\u2019t be made until after the trade deadline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cThere is a chance he could be back for us,\u201d Carlisle said. \u201cFor obvious reasons right now, I think flexibility is something that\u2019s important. We\u2019ll see what shakes out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0It has already been an eventful season for Bradley, who won a roster spot on a non-guaranteed contract, but was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/01\/pacers-waive-tony-bradley.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">waived<\/a> January 5 before his $2,940,876 salary became fully guaranteed. He was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/01\/pacers-plan-to-re-sign-tony-bradley-to-10-day-contract.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">re-signed<\/a> to a 10-day deal three days later, then received another 10-day contract on January 19.<\/p>\n<p>In total, Bradley has appeared in 38 games this season, making three starts and averaging 4.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in 10.9 minutes per night. Carlisle has been impressed by Bradley\u2019s play, especially under the unusual circumstances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cHe\u2019s been terrific,\u201d Carlisle said. \u201cHe really has. I\u2019d have to think this opportunity has resurrected his career. He\u2019s a very good rebounder, defender, passer, plays within the system really well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s more from Indiana:<\/p>\n<p>Carlisle also provided a medical update on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/toppiob01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-31_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Obi Toppin<\/a>, who has been sidelined since undergoing <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/10\/obi-toppin-undergoing-foot-surgery-out-at-least-three-months.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">surgery<\/a> in November for a stress fracture in his left foot, Dopirak states in a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indystar.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/pacers\/2026\/01\/31\/obi-toppin-injury-update-pacers-forward-ahead-of-schedule-right-foot-stress-fracture-surgery\/88455299007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">separate story<\/a>. Toppin has been able to do some on-court work recently, but Carlisle cautioned that he\u2019s not close to playing again. \u201cI believe he\u2019s ahead of schedule technically,\u201d Carlisle said. \u201cHe\u2019s back on the court doing things as you guys have seen, but it will be a while. It will be a little longer.\u201d<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/furphjo01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-01-31_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Johnny Furphy<\/a> was used for the final defensive possession in Wednesday\u2019s win over Chicago because he\u2019s earned the trust of the coaching staff with his play on that end of the court, Dopirak adds in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indystar.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/pacers\/2026\/01\/30\/pacers-johnny-furphy-growing-as-defender-in-starting-lineup\/88436965007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">another piece<\/a>. Furphy has started 16 of the team\u2019s last 17 games and is making a strong case to keep his rotation role past this season. \u201cHe\u2019s a tough-minded kid that has a good feel for having friction without committing fouls. That\u2019s what we want,\u201d Carlisle said. \u201c\u2026 He\u2019s tough-minded, he\u2019s physically tough, he\u2019s put on a lot of strength and he\u2019s made a lot of improvements in a lot of areas.
